KATHLEEN JOY A.

MANTILLA BSA 3-B

1. Describe the personality of Mr. Padua. How is this reflected in his communication style?

Mr. Padua is strict, full of pride, stubborn and not an easy-going person, generally speaking
he is unapproachable. With his attitude it reflected on how he had difficulty in expressing his
thoughts especially when it came to justifying himself. Though he is aware with his social
problems, he could not be what he was not. With this attitude, it really affects his
relationship towards his staff and his job.

2. How has this style affected his relationship with his associates and subordinates?
Mr. Padua's negative personality created a wall of hostility between him and the staff and
the rest of the Senior Managers of his divisions. And it was found out that one of the three
difficulties in their workplace concerned Mr. Padua and his staff and they even recommended
to replace him. This shows that his style led to a bad relationship with his co-workers.

3. If you were the management, would you have him replace? Defend your stand.

Well, If I were the management, I would probably have him replaced. As mentioned, he was
one of the three difficulties in their workplace, it means that being him around creates an
uncomfortable environment for everyone. It would be a great loss for the
corporation/organization but tolerating such behavior would definitely affects then, not to
mention everyone int the workplace suggested and agreed to better replace him. Having a
good relationship with the people that surrounds you, especially in work is very important to
avoid toxicity and issues.

4. What implications does the case have on management policies and practices on hiring and
developing workers and staff?

It is obvious that this case implies that the management put on more credentials and
technical requirements rather than emotional capacity and personality or attitude of the
person when hiring and developing workers and staffs. That is why Mr. Padua is a valuable
asset to the company despite of his attitude and personality. His expertise weighed more
than the conflicts and issues about his social problems. For me, I couldn't agree and I
wouldn't not recommend following the policies and practices that the company had, I
believe that personality should way more than a person's credentials. Yes, it has its
advantages but a negative attitude has its huge impact towards a person's job. Engagement,
teamwork and communication would lead to a better relationship with everyone, so it must
be and should be practice
