Planning for Tomorrow, Prepared for Today, Proud of Our History

Despite of its afflictive pain, history cannot be unlived. We are made by history and
it will always control our present. Living in the contemporary world, where modern ideas
and circumstances exist propelled the concept of apprehending past events. Having
history as a subject never came to my mind as an interesting topic. However, as the world
changes and my interest on my major subject goes down, I decided to open my mind to
learn new things by actually taking every subject seriously. From time to time, I found a
gem that tells me that history is more important than what I think it is.

This course thought me a lot of things that I believe will be very useful for the future.
I am able to evaluate primary sources of history by their credibility, authenticity, and
provenance. This particular knowledge has thought me how to look closely through
different sources and effectively assess whether that source is genuine and not a fraud.
Analyzing was also a critical skill in learning history. Hence, this subject has made me
perceptive about analyzing context, content, and other views of history. This subject
developed my critical and analytical skills with exposure to primary sources.

Primary sources have a critical contribution in understanding history. Philippines

history on the other hand, even though it already undergone several inspection and
investigation. Because of the distortion of some sources, the Philippines history is
incomplete and focuses mainly on the northern part of the country. When Magellan and
his troops started their voyage in search of the Spice Island, they have discovered the
Philippines that was also building their land. For over 300 years of occupation of the
Spaniards, some of the important relics, sources, and other historical things were burned
away from the memories of the original occupants of the land.

The most interesting activity that we have done was the reporting about some of
the controversial cartoons the were drew to cause public discussion about the reality of
the Americans. That particular report required us to use our analyzing skills as an
accountancy student. Also, about the constitution of today, I was able to memorize the
preamble even though it was not mandatory. I just found it fascinating. I remember being
dreamy of becoming a lawyer, this history subject strengthened my interest to enter the
political world. I am proud of our history, we fought, we lived, and we succeed. Today, I
will live the blessings of democracy and independence. Tomorrow, we thrive.
