BSED-English 2

Task: Share your thoughts.

1. Can the teaching cycle be complete without assessment? Explain your answer.

To complete the cycle of learning one must also look at how students' achievement
of learning outcomes is assessed. Assessment is not just the rounding off of the teaching and learning
period but to a large extent a central steering element in
those processes, and directly linked to learning outcomes. Without assessment,
the students can’t expand their knowledge or their education, also without
assessment the students also can’t write anything on or speaking orally
With assessment integrated, teachers learn more about their students'
needs and can adjust instruction to improve student achievement.

2. With which should assessment tool or technique match?

Assessment must be consistent with the objectives of the course and what is
taught and learned. This means that the assessment tools or methods that are
chosen must align with the learning outcomes, the language used to write the
outcomes must match the instruction words in the assessments.

3. What is a way of finding our if the concept of mitosis was understood by the kinesthetically intelligent
students? the musically intelligent? The spatially intelligent?

Kinesthetic learners absorb information best through touch, movement and motion. The word kinesthetic
refers to our ability to sense body position and movement. This means that to really understand
something, they need to touch it, feel it and move it around.
To find out, give them activities that involves them to move around, touch things etc.

Musical Intelligence encompasses the capability to recognize and compose

musical pitches, tones, and rhythms.

To find out if they understand, give them activities involving music which should be interactive. They
need opportunities to create music, so allow them to explore with simple instruments.

Spatial Intelligence--gives one the ability to manipulate and create mental images in order to solve
problems. They have vivid imaginations and are often good at coming up with unusual or unexpected
ways to solve problems.
They learn more easily when presented with visual rather than auditory information

People with visual-spatial intelligence learn best when taught using written, modeled, or diagrammed
instruction, and visual media
4.) Explain the “bell curve” Mentality. Why does this contradict the idea that all
children can achieve?

Grading on a curve, more commonly known as bell curving, is a grading practice

in which students' grades are allocated over a normal distribution. The result is
that a majority of students receive a grade close to a specific average. Its main purpose is to prevent grade
inflation from happening within an institution.

Grading on a curve means that you (as a student) and your grade in an exam is relative to the grades of
your classmates. Those who need the grade boost will pass without these changes becoming unfair to
those who scored high.

5. What are some consequences of using test/quiz as a form of punishment?

It intends to teach a lesson and promote responsibility. Foster internal locus of control.
Work in the long-term.

6. Why should parents be informed about their children’s achievement?

It helps when the parents feel happier and more involved with their children's education. A good
connection with the school lets parents understand the
curriculum better and the advancement of their children. It also helps them
feel more comfortable and happier with the quality of education.

It also helps improve student behavior in the classroom. Having parents

and teachers communicate more helps students feel more motivated in their
classes; their self-esteem and attitudes in class improve.
