This is the “Pen Pal Application form”, please fullfill all the information required with
complete sentences.

 In a short paragraph tell us about you giving some information:

1. My name is Manuela Gomez and I’m 22 years old. I’m from Italy and I have been
living and learning English in Georgia, Atlanta.

2. My name is Tatiana Cardona and I’m 23 years old. I’m from Portugal and I have
been living and learning English in Houston, Texas.

3. My name is Milena Chambueta and I’m 32 years old. I’m from France and I have
been living and learning English in Wisconsin, Madison.

4. My name is Leidy Gomez, and I am 21 years old. I am From Aguas Clientes Mexico
and I have been living and learning English in California Los Angeles.

 Please, write three touristic places you have visited in your state with a little
description.

1. Georgia / Atlanta.
Georgia Aquarium: It is an incredible place, it has tunnels made of glass where you
can walk and see the fish at the same time, it has different sections there are
amazing animals such as dolphins and stingrays.
Atlanta Zoo: I loved this place because they have the panda bear that the
animated movie was based on, Kung Fu Panda, it was a fun experience and you
can see that they treat the animals lovingly.
Atlanta Botanical Garden: awesome light display during Christmas holidays and a
great place for a family or friend night out, wide range of flowers and plants
beautifully arranged.
2. Houston / Texas.
Houston Museum District: fantastic fine arts museum with varied collections and
rotating exhibits, with a wide range of art for all tastes and has many interesting
art exhibits on display to check out.
Discovery Green: has various events throughout the week like yoga, concerts, food
festivals. They do free movie nights during the summer, they set up an ice skating
rink in the winter.
Space Center Houston: A fantastic museum that contains a ton of neat exhibits
with actual artifacts from space, the tram we rode, with the knowledgeable tour
guides was very informative as well as interesting

3. Wisconsin / Madison.
State Capitol: I took the guided tour and enjoy the history of the building and
artwork. The observation deck has a gorgeous 360-degree view of downtown
Madison. One of the finest architectural building design
Olbrich Botanical Gardens: we planned to stop here as I know my friends loves
gardens and seeing the various plants and flowers, I did enjoy the butterfly gardens
I was beautiful experience
Henry vilas zoo: a good selection of animals and a play area for the kids as well,
they also have a carousel and train for the kids to ride, i like the way all persons
can be enjoy to the zoo

4. California / Los Ángeles.


Zuma Beach: It is one of the largest and most popular beaches in Los Angeles,
known for its white sand and crystal clear waters with big waves. a massive beach
with lifeguard stations spaced out on the shore to protect people who risk
swimming these waters.
Griffith Park: The park is very nice, the traffic is very organized and you can clearly
see the HOLLYWOOD sign, it is also very spacious for many people there is always a
space to take beautiful photos
Universal Studios: A very exciting and fun place, ideal to go with the family (not so
young children), friends or partner. Attractions with good technology and a lot of
security. I recommend the attractions of: Harry Potter and Transformer. When you
go, try to take the tour inside the park to see how some movies were filmed.
 Name “Faux pas” (cultural rules) and traditions foreigners should keep in mind
when visiting your state at USA (Name at least 5 for each state).

1. Georgia / Atlanta.
Georgians like to talk and listen. They start conversations in all places: taxies,
accommodation, public transport, churches, markets, but they are not satisfied
with a basic "Small Talk" type. They want a real conversation.
They do not find it bad taste to delve into personal details.
Family is the most important.
No Kiss. According to Georgian customs, you shake hands with a stranger, male or
female. Kisses and hugs are reserved for close friends and family.
Is it drunk or not drunk in Georgia? Should I drink? No. Well, if you want, of
course you do. But beware! As soon as your glass is empty, they'll throw you out
more. On the other hand, it's okay if you say you don't want to drink.

2. Houston / Texas.
The right to bear arms openly is one of the customs most defended by Texans.
Most wear boots all the time and with any clothing.
Having a barbecue in the garden is a custom in summer or any sunny day.
American football, even when schools compete, is very popular in Texas.
Many Texans like to wear their hairstyle very voluminous.

3. Wisconsin / Madison.
They are fans of beer.
They are large-scale cheese producers.
Faithful and lovers of American football.
Proud of its people like the great architect Frank Lyoyd Wright.
They are also highly religious and express their faith openly while respecting the
ideas of others.

4. California / Los Ángeles.


The city of Los Angeles has more than 80 theaters and more than 300 museums.
The most interesting traditions are related to the celebration of Easter.
The 'egg hunt' becomes the main activity for the locals right now.
One of the main public holidays in the city is Memorial Day, which is usually
celebrated on the last Monday in May.
A major event on the Los Angeles holiday calendar is the Hollywood Christmas
Parade, usually held the day after Thanksgiving. This holiday marks the beginning
of the Christmas holidays, the entire period of which is filled with entertainment.

but it was not until 1 year ago that I was given the opportunity to travel to a country to
learn from native speakers.

really new and in my academy there was an opportunity for an exchange and I am
trying to learn but it is really complicated.

pronunciation has been very difficult for me.
4. Pen pal's answer Leidy Gomez: I have been learning English for 6 months, living with
friends from different places has taught me to want to learn more.

 As a group, write about the reasons why it is important for you to learn English.

Example: We want to learn English because we want to study abroad, learn many things
about other cultures and enjoy the advantages of communicating with new people around
the world.

The most important reason to learn English is to know other cultures around the world, in
addition, English is a universal language even in places and countries that is not their
mother tongue, because we can meet many people and learn from their lifestyle, share the
customs and accepting cultural differences, it is also essential to find a good job anywhere
in the world. We can also enjoy art from anywhere in the world, since you can enjoy plays,
go to see movies and go to museums and understand everything they talk about. When
traveling and discovering new places, we will not limit ourselves to the moment of talking
and asking about that place, we can get along easily, we would be tourists with all the
capacity to inform ourselves and learn about that place.
