PROBLEM 3-A
ONE-WAY ANOVA

The Training Officer of GJCE Company wants to compare three different team-based
approaches. Each member of a group of 26 new employees is randomly assigned to one of the
three team-based methods. After completing the training, the employee respondent were
evaluated on the time they spent (in minutes) to assemble the product. The results are shown

METHODS
A B C
8.82 8.21 8.57
9.26 6.65 8.50
8.70 7.44 9.11
8.97 7.95 8.20
8.64 8.20 8.32
8.29 7.75 7.88
9.45 8.84 9.90
9.42 8.40 9.43
9.25 7.98

Use the 0.05 level of significance whether the differences among the three-sample means
can be attributed to chance.

RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION

Ho: There is no significant difference between the time spent on assembling the product and the
three methods used for assembling the product.

Ha: There is a significant difference between the time spent on assembling the product and the
three methods used for assembling the product.

P-value <= 0.05; Reject Ho, Accept Ha

QUESTIONS

1. Compare the results if the level of significance is changed to 0.01.

2. Are the differences of the three sample means significant? Explain.
- Yes, Method B is significantly different because of the average time spent is lower than
Method A and Method C. Thus, Method B can assemble products faster than method A and
method C.

CONCLUSION

There is a significant difference between the three methods (Method A, Method B, and
Method C. After evaluating the average time spent on assembling the product, the training
officer found out that Method B has the lowest average time spent meaning it can assemble
products faster than Method A and Method C in which their average time spent is slightly higher
and almost the same values.

PROBLEM 3-B
TWO-WAY ANOVA

The following data represent the final grades obtained by 4 students in Statistics,
Operations Research, Accounting, and Applied Mathematics:

SUBJECT
STATISTICS OR ACCOUNTING APP. MATH
Student A 92 57 91 51
Student B 83 94 73 86
Student C 72 75 81 73
Student D 68 64 77 86

Use a 0.05 level of significance to test the hypothesis that (a) the subjects are of equal
difficulty; (b) the students have equal ability.

RESULT AND INTERPRETATION

Ho: There is no significant difference between the ability of the students and the difficulty of the
subjects.
Ha: There is a significant difference between the ability of the students and the difficulty of the
subjects

P-value > 0.05; Accept Ho, Reject Ha

QUESTIONS

1. What will be your conclusion if the level of significance is changed to 0.01? Compare the
results from the previous solution.

2. Are the averages of the performance of the four students the same? Justify.
- Yes, the averages of four students are the same due to the same value of the degrees of
freedom.

CONCLUSION
There is no significant difference between the ability of the students and the difficulty of
the subjects. Even the student A has a lowest grade in their grades, they still have the same
average of performances. The difficulty of the subjects does not affect the overall performance of
the students
