Chapter 6

Accountability and Workplace

1. How can you get employees excited about assuming additional responsibilities?

If I am a manager, it is my duty to know these issues and start the incentive process to
make them appreciate their contribution. Employees get excited when they get the
meaning of their job and when they get the right value, recognition and reward for a job
well done, and this starts with communication.

2. If you noticed employee morale dropping in your department, how would you
respond?

We must first look for the cause of the decline morale and for the next step is asking
open ended questions about what employees like or dislike about their current work
environment. And in the next step, we ask them to comment on improving the problems.
If I notice that one of employee’s morale is dropping, I will take following measures.
1.Get Your Employees Involved 2. Communication 3. Job Satisfaction 4. Tools to Get
the Job Done 5. Independency/Empowerment 6. Rewards 7. Care About Your People

3. How would you handle two employees whose friendship had turned negative?

A boss or supervisor should never get involved in employee relationships unless it

negatively affects their performance at work. If this has a negative impact on the
workplace, I urge employees not to love each other, but to be expected to respect
each other professionally in the workplace. And if they disobey, they will need to
formally discipline them to the rules

4. You never give your employees gifts, but one of your employees always gives you
gifts for holidays, birthdays, and Boss’s Day. Is it wrong for you to accept these
gifts?

If the gift is small, there is no problem in accepting it. I believe it is wrong for me accept
gifts from just one employee because, that employee can expect a favor from me or it
can make other employees uncomfortable. I talk to the employee privately and thank him
for his kindness, but I tell him that gifts are unnecessary. And I tell him to use thank you
cards instead of thank you, As I myself use thank you cards or thank you notes.
You have a meeting to attend Wednesday morning. On Tuesday evening, you have a
family emergency. What should you do? Explain your answer.
It depends what kind of emergency I have. If it is about family members, it is a priority for
my job. Otherwise, my first priority is my job. Soon as possible I call with my boss or
workplace and explaining the situation. I give a number so that they can call me in case of
emergency. And I will try to call again so that I can speak directly to the moderator or
facilitators of the meeting and explain the situation and provide information to help those
who intend to attend my meeting.

Identify task required to complete major goals in your life plan, and then list how
you will be accountable to yourself to accomplish these goals. There should be
several accountability measures for each life plan goal. Be specific in your answer.
