CHARACTERISTICS FOR EACH TYPE OF TRUCK

Dry van:

1. These are the standard containers. Closed tightly and without refrigeration or ventilation.
2. They can be used to transport almost all types of loads
3. Allows the transportation of loads in different means of transport without intermediate
handling.

Reefer:

1. The size of the cold containers has measures of 5.4 meters in length and width of 2,226
meters high and 2,2272 meters. The tare is usually 3,080 kilograms and they have a
capacity of 28.1 cubic meters as well as a maximum gross weight of 32,480 kilos.

2. There are different sizes from 11,512 long, 2,280 wide and 2,249 high to 11,512 long,
2,280 mm wide and 2,553 meters high.

3. As a rule, there are generally these three classes of reefer containers. Those of 5.4 × 2.2 ×
2.2272, those of 11,512 × 2,280 × 2,249 and finally, those of 11,512 × 2,280 × 2,553.

Flatbed:

1. Basically, it is a transport equipment mainly of a steel construction defining its frame. It

also comprises a lighting system, brakes and tires.

2. By simple definition, this is a long flat platform of either 20ft, 40ft, 48ft or 53ft length used
for carrying shipping containers. The flatbed trailer has no roof or walls to the side.

3. It is a bare platform on which different container sizes are secured using container locks
ready for transportation. They are primarily used for the transportation of bulk cargo.

Conestoga:

1. Standards Common Lengths: 48-53 feet

2. Capacity Max Weight: 30,000 lbs.
Width: 102’ ‘Height:102’’
3. Available Options: Spread Axle trailer that can have a driver team.
Curtain side:

1. Speedy load and unload. Once the curtains are pulled back, the trailer can be accessed
from both sides as well as the rear door by multiple forklifts simultaneously. Drivers are in
and out and back on the road quickly.

2. Simplified partial deliveries. The limitations of “first on/last off” loading are a thing of the
past. Independent access to all parts of a load at any point along a route means multiple
drop loads are easily doable from a single trailer.

3. No tarp required. While federal regulations require cargo inside curtainsides to be tied
down, most loads can be quickly and conveniently secured with straps. Drivers devote
time to driving, not struggling with a tarp, and experience a safer work environment as
well.

Removable gooseneck:

1. They have low center of gravity, good stability, with high strength and material
characteristics improve the loading capacity.
2. Some equipments can be installed on the gooseneck of the lowbed trailer and
removed/connected by operators easily.
3.  This type lowbeds are mainly suitable for large construction machineries.

Pup trailer:

1. Common lengths: 28 feet Width: 96-102 inches Height: 12.5 - 13.5 feet
2. Door type: Swing Door/Roller door (varies by carrier)
3. Capacity Max Weight @ 28 ft length: 22,000 lbs. Max Pallets @ 28 ft: 14 Pallets

Straight trucks:

1. On average, someone who drives a straight truck will not need to get a CDL driver’s license
because most of these trucks don’t go over the limit of 26,001 lbs.
2. Most of these truckers get to be home daily with their family.
3. Truck drivers usually get a lot of benefits because they are working in a job environment
that is very crucial to society.
