Task 2 – DNA Profile Comparison

 What are the procedures for sample collecting? Is it legal to take the glove for DNA
testing?
 Which part of the glove do we want to sample?
 Could we find DNA other than from the person who wore the glove?
 Is there a risk of contamination with sampling?
 Is there a difference between the sample collected from the cup and the sample
collected from the glove?
 Was the procedure to collect the DNA sample from the cup legal? What are the
differences between entering a crime scene to secure evidence and collecting
evidence from a suspect? Is it legal to secretly collect a reference sample?
 Is there a difference between RNP and likelihood ratio? If so, what is it?
 Does the phrasing correctly convey the scientific results obtained?
 What is a mixed DNA profile? What are the issues associated with it?
 Why are databases necessary? Which databases can be used? Are the different
databases connected? Who can get access to databases? What do these databases
contain? Should we also look at core ancestry databases?
 Last full sentence  Why can the last sample not be submitted to the national DNA
database? What are the standards to be met for submitting to the national DNA
database? Why so? If so, can is still be used for comparison? Why?

Task 3 – Evidential Value

 Which fallacies are used in this case? Which statements are true/false? What do the
values ‘6%’ and ’99.99%’ express?
 What are the implications of 1 in one million? What evidential value does it carry?
 How does DNA transfer occur? Are there different kinds of DNA transfer?
 (Was the house search and seizure legal?)
