DRAWING AN ARCH

OF VARYING THICKNESSES
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 1

1. Draw the axis and springer line of the

arch (in layer "01 Axis").

2. Draw half the intrados of the arch

profile (in layer "A1 Arch profile").

3. Mention the dimensions (in layer "07b

Main dimension").

2
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 2

1. Draw the desired thicknesses on top &

bottom (in layer "A2 Segments").

2. Draw a diagonal line from the

extrados points (in layer "00
Construction lines").

3
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 3

1. Draw a line perpendicular to the

diagonal line (in layer "00
Construction lines").

2. Fillet this line with the axis of the arch.

3. This defines the centre point of the

extrados curve.

4. Draw the extrados curve from this

centre point.

4
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 4

1. Divide the bottom & top thicknesses

in three.

2. Draw 3 diagonal lines from the

middle third and centreline points
(in layer "00 Construction lines").

5
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 5

1. Draw lines perpendicular to the 3

diagonal lines (in layer "00
Construction lines").

2. Extend these lines to the axis of the

arch.

3. This defines the 3 centre points of the

middle third and centreline curves.

6
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 6

1. Draw the curves of the middle third

and centreline from these centre
points.

7
DRAWING AN ARCH OF VARYING THICKNESSES - 7

1. Delete the diagonal construction

lines.
2. Divide the arch into short segments.
