Lesson 2
Acne, Breasts, Bras, Shaving,
Height, & Weight Changes
All About Acne
WHY does acne exsist & happen when you go through puberty?
REMEMBER: Puberty results in more oily and greasy skin
All of your skin is covered by two types of tiny holes - Hair Follicles & Pores
Acne is the result of oily or "dirty" pores
Pores contain Oil Glands, but more specifically Sebaceous Glands
These Sebaceous Glands secrete or release, Sebum which is an oil that makes your hair or skin appear greasy or oily,
is a natural and necessary bodily function
Specifically, these release more oil during puberty
Too much Sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria in pores is what causes Acne
Acne is a skin condition that results in a variety of different looking bumps on your skin
Black Heads - A Pore that becomes clogged up, but stays open & appears dark
White Heads - A Pore that becomes clogged up, closes up, and pushes out
Pimples - A clogged Pore thats has become red & infected
Pustules or Pus Filled Bumps -An infected clogged Pore that looks similar to a White Head, but is bigger and filled with pus
Pimple Prevention?
Wash your face with a face wash or cleanser at least once a day to keep oil and other things from building up in your Pores
Avoid scrubbing too hard when you're washing your face! This irritates the skin and can result in worse acne and skin overall
Rather than using a towel or sponge, use your hands to wash your face to best avoid irritation
Look for make-up, lotions, sunscreen, and other skin care products that are labeled oil free
If you wear make up do your best to remove it after your day or before you go to sleep
Keep perfume, hair spray and other hair products away from your face or skin on your face to avoid clogging pores
If your hair often gets oily or greasy keep it away or out of your face to avoid putting extra oil on your skin
After exercise or sweating do your best to wash your face and reduce sweat or other oils
Wash pillow cases and make-up brushes often
DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE FOR NO REASON
If you do have a pimple or other acne, TRY NOT TO PICK, SCRATCH, OR POP THEM!

BREASTS CAN START TO DEVELOP BETWEEN 8 AND 13 YEARS OLD
BREASTS DEVELOP IN STAGES
STAGE 1 - BREASTS FIRST BEGIN TO DEVELOP AT THE BEGINNING OF PUBERTY WHEN
THE HORMONE ESTROGEN IS RELEASED INTO THE BODY (BREAST BUDDING)
STAGE 2 - THE NIPPLE AND AREOLA (THE SKIN AREA AROUND THE NIPPLE) GET DARKER
AND LARGER
STAGE 3 - BREASTS THEN WILL CONTINUE TO GROW, BUT MAY BE MORE POINTED
RATHER THAN ROUND & ONE OF YOUR BREASTS MAY BE LARGER/SMALLER THAN THE
OTHER
