Introduction
The main aim of this research is to identify valuable articles that can provide good information’s and
valuable input related to project management certifications like PMP and CAPM.
Project management is one of the fastest-growing professions, businesses across many industries are
seeking to hire new project managers with the qualifications and expertise necessary to make a positive
impact in their organizations.
As a result of this research we should be able to understand the benefits of these certifications in
general, to have an opinion whether it’s worthwhile or not for most project managers to get certified
from PMI Institute, and to have a conclusion whether we would consider to get one of these certificates.
As a conclusion we will provide our findings and opinions related to this topic.

Materials and Methodology

Approach used is qualitative and quantitative.
In order to get the best input for this research, some valuable articles are evaluated and additionally
many statistical reports checked in order to support the opinions and information’s that are gathered
from these sources.

Articles from “PMI Institute”, the provider of these trainings and certifications, and “Purdue University”
a world-class faculty and are checked and analyzed, and their arguments are validated and supported by
statistics provided from a few different sources.

Discussion and Conclusion

Having evaluated these main articles and also supportive materials from different sources, now we can
summarize and give responses to our main discussions.

There are opinions that certifications won’t guarantee that you’ll be an excellent PM professional,
but experience, passion, training, the right skill set, and a head-on collision with real-world challenges
will.

This may be true, but while you can survive as a project management professional without any
certification, having one can make a big difference in many important situations.
Prestige, career advancement, personal fulfillment, salary raises, and continuing professional
development are just some of them.

Having the right certification adds confidence for moments when the opportunity to get the project
management job of your dreams suddenly pops up and only certified candidates get included in the
shortlist.

What are benefits of certification in general?

I would consider one of the main benefits would be a greater confidence in your abilities, both
personally and from your colleagues, also recognition of your achievement and skills from an industry
professional body is a great benefit, especially for working in international environments.

Achieving an internationally-recognized certification could help you gain a new role and greater
professional responsibility, and some survey researches show that higher salaries are given for PMP
certification holders compared to non-certificated project managers.

Do you think it is worthwhile for most project managers to get certified?

Considering the benefits mentioned above, my opinion is that spending time to learn about PM and
CAPM and completing the training to get the necessary PDU’s is worth it, especially if your plan is to
continue your career in Project Management or even in other management positions.

Is it something you would consider?

Currently I’m a member of PMI and got validated as a candidate for PMP Certification Exam.

I have finished the course of “International Project Management Preparatory Program” and received the
required PDU’s for this certification.

Since six years I also work in Project Management positions in Banking sector as a Manager of Product
Development and PMO Office, and since nearly 2 years I have been working as Transition and
Transformation Lead PM for AT&T Inc. an American multinational holding and the world's largest
telecommunications company.

So for me is very important to be certified, and I plan to be certified within this quarter.
