About Padmavati Shopping Center


 Padmavati Shopping center is located in Lehripura Vadodara.
 Established 77 years back in 1940 by the locals and migrants because of the favorable
business environment and opportunities, today it is a renowned shopping complex for a
variety of goods and commodities.

 Padmavati Shopping center consist of 2 floors each floor containing 150 shops and 10
shops in basement, 1 washroom and drinking water facility.
 The 2nd floor also includes FAMILY COURTS and related offices.
 Out the total 310 shop, the owners of 307 shops are male.
 20% of the total shop owners are migrants belonging to different Gujarat cities like
Surat, Kutch Anand and different states like Madhya Pradesh and UP.
 The major cast and community prevailing in the center are Hindu, Muslim, Gujarati,
Sindhi, Jain, Bihari.

 All the owners sell hosiery goods and relatives of only 5 owners have their shops in the
same market and are also selling similar goods.
 They support each other by supplying necessary raw materials during shortage.
 There are no branches within the market or in any other part of the city.
 Also no owner is into ecommerce business.
 On asking most of the owners (about 89%) they said that their children are going to
support them in their family business.

Management & Routine Of The Market


 The market is managed by the VYAPARI MANDAL.
 There are 12 members in the Mandal.
 The head of the Mandal is MR. Mahesh.
 There are 12 members in the Mandal
 Out of the 12, 9 belong to HINDU caste (3 Gujarati-3 Jain-2 Sindhi- 1 Jain) and the other
3 belong to the MUSLIM caste.
 All are male Candidates.
 All are elected by the Voting process
 There are no Migrants.
 The VYAPARI MANDAL is responsible to solve conflicts and ensure the smooth
functioning of the market. Also decisions regarding renovations and expansions are to
be approve by them.
 The market works every day of the week from 10am to 10pm and there are no holidays
specified.

Views On Impact Of Malls


 On interviewing 10 shopkeepers on their views regarding impact of malls on their
business everyone said that they wouldn’t face much problem because they also supply
goods on low prices in bulk and quality products in comparison to malls.
 But they admitted that they will lose some of the customers that come from far places
in order to purchase goods.
 The same on asking to 10 different consumers they replied that shopping for them will
become more convenient.
 On asking Mr. Mahesh head of Vyapari -Mandal he said that, “No doubt we will lose
some consumers but still we will be able to maintain the consumer base who belong to
the city and nearby areas.”
 He also said that we have a benefit of retail shop owners who purchase from us. We
will be able to retain them.

Giving Back To The Society


On asking Mr. Mahesh head of Vyapari -Mandal he said that during Diwali season the whole
Mandal Along with all the Shop-Owners do Charity Work.
