Based from the report of Mr. Javier, curriculum refers to all educational
experiences of students in school. That’s the reason why learners are the center of
curriculum. They are the very reason a curriculum is developed. Throughout the years,
curriculum has been created and revised to improve the education system of a country. It is
necessary to consider the needs of our students in the curriculum that we use in our school.
Curriculum must also meet the standards and quality education that the students are
expected to learn and adapt. It is the method or technique on how the lessons are taught
and how teachers can deliver the concepts of lesson to the students. It is formulated on the
national or district level because curriculum development should consider existing
community values and expectations. Planning is needed for curriculum development, and it
should involve the teachers who are in direct contact with the learners and are informed
through their relevant experiences with them. People in the community must also be
involved in curriculum development such as stakeholders, parents and government. They
are the one who put into action and give life to the curriculum. They also shape the school
curriculum implementation.
In the report of Ma’am Ladao, I learned that curriculum development is needed for
appropriate selection and organization of learning experiences. It helps the organization or
school to achieve its goals and objective. Curriculum leaders are said to be effective if they
embrace the dynamic role and go beyond to their expected responsibilities. The purpose of
curriculum is to provide teachers with an outline for what should be taught in the classrooms.
I also learned from the report of Ms. Linatoc, the components of an effective
curriculum development process. The first step in any curriculum development process is
curriculum planning. It involves research that reviews recent issues and trends of the
discipline, both within the district and across the country. This research allows a curriculum
committee to identify key issues and trends that will support the needs assessment that should
be conducted and the philosophy that should be developed. Second is curriculum articulation,
it helps to clarify exactly the what grade level or course objectives mean and provide a
common standard for evaluating how successfully they are achieved. Third is the curriculum
implementation, this is the action of putting the new program into practice. These changes
can occur in two ways; slow change or rapid change. Lastly, we have curriculum evaluation.
The curriculum development cycle ends and then begins again with a careful evaluation of
the effectiveness and impact of the program.

Republic Act 10157 also known as “The Kindergarten Education Act,” provides that
the curriculum is designed to cater to the needs of the learners with special needs or children
who are gifted, those with disabilities, and other diverse learners. In school year 2011-2012,
kindergarten education was implemented and considered as part of basic education
curriculum. It became mandatory and compulsory for students before enrolling for Grade 1.
This program is provided for children whose at least five years old. Kindergarten will also
use thematic and integrative curriculum to ensure the development of foundation skill as part
of their preparation for elementary level. As an elementary teacher, I am in favor with the
implementation of Kindergarten Education Act because it serves as an awareness for the
parents to give importance to education. This will encourage them to enroll their child to
develop their milestones and prepare them for elementary level.

The Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013
covers, Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education to provide adequate time for mastery of
concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. The program aims to
increase the competence and employability of Filipinos to be globally competitive
individuals. Its objective is to strengthen the competency-based learning of our students
which is also a way to produce industry-ready graduates. It has an advantage because it
provides job opportunities for senior high school graduates. During their senior high school,
students will be able to acquire skills that enable and prepare them for work after graduation.
As a result, to this, students may opt not to continue college and may already be eligible for
work without earning a college diploma. But most of the parents are not in favor with this
reform, because they cannot afford to support their child financially. Despite of the
disagreements of parents and other people, the implementation of K12 program continues to
adapt and practice by schools.
