We have chosen "Si Langgam at Tipaklong" as a literary piece because this literary piece
have been handed down to us from generation to generation especially for the young learners in
Grade 1. This is a great visual reminders for young learners who aren't quite reading yet. This is
generally relatively short, very entertaining, and students are likely to have some familiarity with
this literary piece already. It is commonly used by the teachers in primary grades to improve
learner's literacy skills. Apart from the value learned from the story, it also heightened their
interest for Filipino children’s stories. It also encourages children to think deeply and share their
thoughts about a story. Reading authentic literature can improve vocabulary, reading
comprehension, reading ability and language growth.
The author uses contextualization in the story. He or she uses animals ( Langgam at
Tipaklong ) as his/her subjects of the story, using the personality of ants and tipaklong to define
or explain in a form of analogy of two difference values. In the story there is a moral lesson
being taught which serve as a useful platform to educate listeners, especially young children. It is
an idyllic medium through which children can be taught valuable lessons about life because the
engaging narratives captivate even young children's attention.
