Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963, in
Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston, cousin of singing star
Dionne Warwick and goddaughter of soul legend Aretha Franklin.

She began singing in the choir at her church, The New Hope Baptist Church in
Newark, as a young child and by the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally
with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 hit, 'I'm Every Woman'. She went on to provide
backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine Jackson and her own mother and worked briefly as a
model, appearing on the cover of 'Seventeen' magazine in 1981. Her debut album, 'Whitney
Houston', was released in 1985 and became the biggest-selling album by a debut artist.

Her 1998 album, 'My Love Is Your Love' was well reviewed but the drug abuse began
to affect her reputation. She was dropped from a performance at The 72nd Annual Academy
Awards (2000) because she was "out of it" at rehearsals.

Her 2009 comeback album 'I Look To You' was positively received and sold well, but
promotional performances were still marred by her weakened voice. Her final acting
performance was in Sparkle (2012) (a remake of the 1976 movie, Sparkle (1976)), released
after her death. She was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room on 11 February 2012.

Glasses
Glasses, also known as eyeglasses or spectacles, are devices consisting of glass or
hard plastic lenses mounted in a frame that holds them in front of a person's eyes, typically
using a bridge over the nose and arms which rest over the ears.
Glasses are typically used for vision correction, such as with reading glasses and
glasses used for nearsightedness.
Safety glasses provide eye protection against flying debris for construction workers or
lab technicians; these glasses may have protection for the sides of the eyes as well as in the
lenses. Some types of safety glasses are used to protect against visible and near-visible light
or radiation. Glasses are worn for eye protection in some sports, such as squash.
Glasses wearers may use a strap to prevent the glasses from falling off during
movement or sports. Wearers of glasses that are used only part of the time may have the
glasses attached to a cord that goes around their neck, to prevent the loss of the glasses and
breaking.
Sunglasses allow better vision in bright daylight, and may protect one's eyes against
damage from high levels of ultraviolet light. Typical sunglasses are darkened for protection
against bright light or glare; some specialized glasses are clear in dark or indoor conditions,
but turn into sunglasses when in bright light. Most sunglasses do not have corrective power in
the lenses; however, special prescription sunglasses can be ordered.
Specialized glasses may be used for viewing specific visual information, for example
3D glasses for 3D films (stereoscopy). Sometimes glasses are worn purely for fashion or
aesthetic purposes. Even with glasses used for vision correction, a wide range of fashions are
available, using plastic, wire, and other materials.

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;

He still may leave thy garland green.

Milk is one of the most popular beverages in the United States. We have been told
it "does a body good," but some scientific studies have found that contrary to popular
belief, drinking milk may do more harm to our bodies than good.
Proponents of milk say calcium and other vitamins and minerals in milk make it
an important part of a healthful diet for people of all ages. They argue that milk’s benefits

prevention, and relief of PMS.

It is probably one of the most important books I’ve ever read. Not for its
heavy philosophy, practical instructions, or memorable quotes; but for its simple
message of how wonderful life can be when viewed through the eyes of an innocent
child.
Each story is only a page or two, a delightful narrative of how Totto-chan
views the world, and how Mr. Kuroyanagi inspires the children to explore, learn,
feel, and have joy. There are several charcoal drawings that capture the tenderness
of the stories, making us feel a part of Totto-chan’s world.
One of my favorite vignettes is the story of losing her hat in the septic tank
at the school and proceeds to dig it out. The headmaster walks by, and after a few
question to satisfy his curiosity, and hearing her earnest explanations, he lets her
continue with the simple instruction,”make sure you put it all back!”
Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the window is a celebration of childhood,
learning and caring. We’ve enjoyed reading one or two stories for bedtime off-and-
on for a couple of years, and almost don’t want to finish the book because it will
mean there are no more stories. Totto-chan seems so real and loveable, and her
headmaster is a role model for parents and teachers.
The book is written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi and translated by Dorothy
Britton.

A. of an innocent children
