According to John Kerr, curriculum is planned and guided by the school, whether it

takes place in groups, individually within the school or outside. Moreover, curriculum
development is a broad concept because it does not only involve the school, the students,
and the teachers. It also has a significant impact on the development of society as a whole,
especially in science where it includes changes in what is taught, to whom and how.

Having the teacher's knowledge, experiences, and competencies are essential to any
curriculum development effort. As a teacher, designing a well-developed curriculum is
important to ensure an effective science learning environment in which teachers can
participate in the development process by providing them with a written set of curricular
goals. It is also important that science education provide learners with a real picture of
science, including theories and models. This can be achieved through the creation of
curriculums that suggest suitable teaching-learning methods, instructional materials, and
so on.

Additionally, curriculum development stresses the importance of using the

children’s ideas as a starting point, learning through interactions with objects, and their
classmates. Hence they discover new scientific concepts when interacting with objects and
materials. Thus, it aims to help children develop basic scientific ideas and understanding
about the biological and physical aspects of the world, and the processes through which
they develop this knowledge and understanding. Furthermore, it encourages children to
examine and appreciate how science and technology affect their lives and the environment,
and promotes positive attitudes toward science.

Curriculum development truly plays an essential role in establishing the foundation

of education. As a teacher, you may add something extra to the curriculum that could create
a beneficial end for the students.
