Food is a basic need whose demand continues to increase in line with the development of the
population and the increase in the quality of life of the community. That’s way compliance of
food needs is one of the basic components in human resource development. The concept of
food security generally consists of two main elements, namely the supply and affordability of
food, which includes aspects of production stability, price policy, distribution and
consumption. Food security is a fundamental policy in improving people's welfare. Food
security is part of national economic resilience which has a major impact on all citizens in
Indonesian. This policy is highly dependent on the ability of the government and the
community to provide and use food according to regional potential and community needs. In
terms of food security, it is not only limited to that concept, but also has a great influence on
the defense and security of a country. The need for food in Indonesia in the sector of meeting
protein needs is still lacking. Fulfilling protein needs can certainly be supported from various
aspects. That matter can be classified based on its source, namely vegetable and animal
sources. Fulfilling the needs of animal protein for the community can be acquired form of
livestock products available in each region to support food security. The livestock products
can be in the form of milk, eggs and meat. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the
source of animal protein as an aspect that affects food security. Of course, the role of
veterinarians in it is very influential in this regard.
