Narrative Task:

In the excerpt taken from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”, the author developed an
interesting situation for the character of Fortunato, as he’s led by Montresor into the catacombs
for Fortunato’s demise. The excerpt ends just before the climax, a point in the story where the
turning point occurs and the characters’ fate is decided.

Write an original story to continue where the passage ended. In your story, change the narrator so
that it’s told from Fortunato’s point of view, rather than Montresor’s. Be sure to use what you have
learned about the characters Montresor and Fortunato as you tell your version of what happens
next.
