WCPSS HEALTH GUIDANCE FOR STAFF
● Employe Accountability Plan
● PPE & Supplies
○ Disposable face coverings are available for anyone that arrives on campus
without one.
○ Request for extra face shields or enhanced PPE requests go through Mr. Grant.
○ Dividers as requested on the way & expected Wednesday, disinfecting wipes in
classrooms by Friday afternoon, tech wipes in Plan B rooms by Friday afternoon
○ Health Screening Guidance
○ BEFORE entering the building, staff complete the Self Screening OR are screened
at the front entrance.
○ Staff that do not pass the screening do not report to work and notify the
principal
○ Staff that experience a COVID-19 symptom during the day call the office for
coverage and leave campus immediately without traveling through the building.

● Student Accountability Plan and Required Health Protocols
○ Parents/students are required to sign an acknowledgement received
○ Protocols/acknowledgement forms will be sent to parents in the Monday
Folder. Teachers will check off when returned; submit completed forms to
the office.
● PPE & Supplies
○ Students wear their own face covering
○ Face coverings available upon arrival and on buses for students that forget
one.
○ Anyone on WCPSS campus will be required to wear a face mask.
● Health Screening Guidance
○ ALL students screened upon arrival.
○ Students that do not pass the screening leave with their carpool parent or
are escorted by an adult to the Care Center, WITHOUT entering the building.

Face Covering
Guidance 9
arrival
● NO staff parking on Fayetteville Street(B&GC drop off area)
● All students enter only through carpool or the 1st floor entrance
near Dance.
● Carpool and Bus Staff conduct Health Screenings for all students
before they enter the building.
● Neighbors/Walkers are screened at the bus entrance.
● Students that do not pass the Health Screening are sent home
(carpool) or held in Care Center (buses/walkers) until parent
pickup.
○ Siblings remain at school.

Student TRANSITIONS

Social Distancing/Elementary
● Students may move throughout the building.
● Floor markings and dots are spaced six feet apart in the middle of
hallways and other common areas as a guide when students are
traveling in lines together, and passing in the hall.
● Stairwells are marked “Up” and “Down” for one way travel.
● Students will travel on the right in the hallways.
● Enter/Exit signs are posted in areas with double doors.
● A roundabout is at the 1st floor T intersection.

Student bathroom and Water Foun
tain breaks
● Teachers may take students to the bathroom as a group at
designated time determined by teacher.
● Students may use the bathroom outside of a scheduled bathroom
break.
● Social distancing allows one student at every other toilet/urinal/sink
at a time. Occupancy signs are posted in the bathrooms.
● Students can ONLY use the water fountain by using a cup or water
bottle.
● Students are encouraged to bring their own bottled water or reusable
water bottle (clearly labeled). (water bottle fill stations coming later this fall)

Face covering Breaks
● Employees may give students a face covering break if they can
meet all of the following conditions:
○ Outside only
○ Spaced 8-10 feet from all other individuals, including
employees
○ Students should remain stationary in the same space
○ Students should all face the same direction

Cafe Overview
CNS Reopening Plan and Guidance
● Students will wash their hands before and after eating lunch.
● Students will not have meal choice.
● No ID number/payment is required through December 31.
● Markings on the cafeteria floor and tables ensure social
distancing while entering/eating at tables/lining up.
● CNS staff will clean/disinfect all tables and seats after each
class eats.

● Breakfast will be delivered to classrooms by breakfast duty staff by
8:50 a.m. each day.
● Enough meals will be delivered for each Plan B student. Teachers are
encouraged to distribute any extra meals so they are not wasted.
● There will be large trash bins near classrooms for trash. Teachers may
use a large bag in the room and transfer it to the hallway bin OR allow
students to use the large bins in the hallway (social distancing in place)
● Students will eat breakfast at their desks.
● Staff will be in charge of cleaning areas of students who ate breakfast.

Eating Lunch In The Cafeteria
● Students will wash their hands before entering the cafeteria and are
encouraged to use the bathroom.
● Maintain social distance while moving throughout the cafeteria.
● Students sit six feet apart and face the same direction. Seating is
marked as a guide. Students will sit on the seats marked with a blue X.
● Lunch duty staff will gather lunches from the serving line and hand
them out to students. Students will not travel through the line.
● Students should not leave their seat while others are eating. A student
MUST wear a face covering if they need to leave their seat.
● Child Nutrition Services will clean and disinfect seats and tables before
and after each meal.

Eating Lunch In The Classroom
● One grade level teacher will pick up lunches and deliver back to the classroom.
● Students wash their hands before eating.
● Sit six feet apart and face the same direction.
● Staff will have students eat at their desk.
● Students nor staff can move within the room while students are eating and not
wearing face coverings.
○ If students do have to leave their seat, they MUST wear a face covering.
● Staff and students clean up after lunch. Teachers may use a large bag in the room and
transfer it to the hallway bin OR allow students to use the large bins in the hallway
(social distancing in place)
● Staff disinfect surfaces.
● Use the large trash cans in the hall for lunch trash and recyclables.

Recess
● Currently following Plan B Guidelines; Social Distancing/Elementary
● Playground equipment is now open (see latest info as of 5 pm 10/22)
● Students will wash their hands before and after recess.
● No sharing of any PE equipment
● Classes will be in zone areas during recess to help adhere to social
distancing.

vISITORS AND vOLUNTEERS
● Visitors - Visitors Guidance
○ NCDHHS requires schools to limit nonessential visitors and
activities involving external groups or organizations.
○ Every effort should be made to keep visitors from needing
to enter a WCPSS facility
● Volunteers - Volunteer Reminders for the 2020-21 School Year
○ Only Essential Volunteers permitted

Technology
● Technology Guidance for Return To Campus
● Students are NOT ALLOWED to share devices.
○ When in person, students keep WCPSS devices at school. Students
take home their device for remote learning.
○ Parent that choose to send a personal device with a student
complete and return this BYOD Form. Personal devices travel back
and forth with the student each day.
● Use painters tape to label devices with student name.
● Store computers in their black carts. (Discuss plan to charge. Charge overnight? Buy extra
charging cords 2-3 per room $20 each?)
● WCPSS devices are available to students who arrive to school without one.
● IPA Cleaning Wipes are ONLY to clean technology and electronic devices.

Carpool Dismissal
● Students will not wait in large groups in the carpool loop.
● Students are divided into waiting areas.
○ Kindergarten - Kindergarten hallway
○ 1st Grade - ECS1 hallway near the sensory path
○ 2nd-5th Grade - Cafeteria (use recess walkie from custodial office)
○ ECS - Carpool benches(weather permitting)
● Staff use walkie talkies to listen and repeat carpool numbers as parents
arrive. (staff caller gets 2 walkies-1 for self, 1 for person on K hall.
● Inside carpool staff do not need to escort students to their car.
● Outside carpool staff assist students as needed with opening their car door.
● One staff member on duty in the cafeteria will supervise the courtyard as
students move from the cafeteria to the carpool sidewalk.
● One ‘Car’ staff maintains the last cone/spot for student safety.
● No Student Safety Patrol

Bus and Neighbors Dismissal
Bus/Boys & Girls Club Dismissal
● One teacher per grade escorts students to the gym.
○ Students riding the first group of buses are escorted directly to
their bus. Other students proceed up the gym steps.
● The two assigned teachers will stay in the gym to monitor safety and
social distancing.
● Students will be escorted to the buses when their bus is called.
Neighbors Students will adhere to social distancing while waiting for an
adult or when transitioning to the crosswalk.
Walkup is not a dismissal option this year.
No Student Safety Patrol

Care Center
● Care Center Guidelines (in RTL center)
● Staffed by: Bob, Joyce, Amanda, Karen, and Nikkia
● Care Center is for ALL student illness.
○ Students with any illness related concern must be escorted by an adult to the
Care Center. Students cannot be sent alone to the Care Center.
○ Students are picked up if they do not pass the daily health screening, experience
symptoms of COVID-19 during the day, or as needed based on NC Emergency
Guidelines.
● Health Room is for First Aid and Medications ONLY.
○ Students that need first aid or medication are not required to be with an adult.
Use your best judgment.
● WCPSS Care Center/Health Room Referral form required for ALL students
○ Teacher only completes student contact info/top portion of page 1

Custodian Cleaning During the
school Day
● Admin will review cleaning/disinfecting plan with school-based
custodial staff.
● During the school day custodial staff will….
○ Clean and disinfect Plan B rooms during lunch/recess.
○ Clean and disinfect all restrooms throughout the day.
■ Replenish soap and paper towels regularly and as needed.
○ Clean and disinfect touch points throughout the day.
○ Clean and disinfect all water fountains throughout the day.
○ Collect the bins after the lunch period ends and empty them.
○ Sweep and mop as needed in between groups.

Custodian Cleaning After Scho

● Admin review cleaning/disinfecting plan with school-based custodial staff.
● After school, custodial staff will…
○ Clean all restrooms.
○ Check hand sanitizer stations nightly and replenished as needed.
○ Disinfect all desks, touch points, and surfaces after school each day.
○ Clean all work surfaces: desks, chairs, tables, countertops, pencil sharpeners,
classroom phones, intercoms, filing cabinets, and communal tech devices
(treated per tech section requirements).
○ Vacuum carpets, sweep, and spot mop hard surface floors.
■ Teachers/students put up chairs at end of day. Custodians vacuum,
take down chairs, then sanitize.

Staff Cleaning
Cleaning and Disinfecting Guidance.
● Students will not be able to assist with cleaning or disinfecting.
● Staff members have access to cleaning/disinfecting supplies to use as needed
for disinfecting work surfaces between classes.
● Classroom staff during school hours will….
○ Use disinfecting supplies to clean desks and high touch surfaces between
classes as needed, and the cleaning of shared program
materials/equipment as desired.
● Staff can use the following cleaning supplies:
○ Oxivir TB - Used to disinfect classrooms during academic day as desired.
○ IPA Cleaning Wipes - Used to clean shared technology and electronic
devices.

Hand Sanitizing Stations
● Hand Sanitizing Stations
● Staff will supervise the use of hand sanitizer by students when possible,
particularly younger students.
● Parents and students are encouraged to notify school staff if a student
is sensitive to alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
● Students with sensitivities to hand sanitizer will be
provided with other opportunities to clean their hands.

Fast Program (staff childcar

● K-3 Plan B staff children start school daily October 26.
● 4-5 Plan B staff children remain in FAST program Oct 26-Nov 16.
○ After Nov 16, grades 4-5 staff children go to school daily.
● K-5 VA staff children may remain in our FAST program, unless you
create your own plan.
● 6-8 staff children may register to attend their middle school
FAST program Oct 26-Nov 9.
○ Starting Nov 9, they follow their cohort rotation and can use
the Middle School FAST program during remote learning.
