Category of Teacher
● Beginning (BT 1, BT 2, BT 3)
● Full Time Teacher, non-BT, without Career status. Could have less than three years in WCPSS (comp plan) or more than 3 years in WCPSS
(abbrev. plan unless certification renewal year...then standard plan). These teachers will not, at this point, obtain “career status” because of
changes by the NC Legislature pertaining to “tenure”
● Career status: These teachers obtained career status prior to the legislature removing “tenure”. They are either on a standard or abbreviated
plan depending on if they are on their certificate renewal year.
● Part time and retired teachers: Any teacher less than 100% or hired after Dec ?, 2020 (TBD). On Abbreviated plan
● Instructional Support Staff: School library media coordinator, counselor, Teacher Leadership Specialist (Instructional Facilitator, coaches). All are
on a full observation cycle. No abbreviated for this category. Receive a peer evaluation only if on a comprehensive plan. If standard, then the 2
informals can be on 1 and 4 only, but summative is all 5. Same is true for media, & teacher leaders. If in the certificate renewal year and have
more than three years staff member stays in standard cycle. If you are in a split position (teaching and non-teaching role) your principal
determines the appropriate plan type (ie teacher evaluation vs teacher leadership specialist)

Four Plan types

● Comprehensive: Beginning Teacher 1, 2, 3 Hired at least 50% and working at least 120 days. Three 45 min+ observations on standards 1-5 and
require a peer observation. This evaluation plan has a container for the peer observation which is AFTER the first admin observation. First
observation needs pre-conference.
● Comprehensive Non-BT: People who have less than 3 years consecutive experience with WCPSS. Three 45 min+ observations on standards 1-5
and require a peer observation. This evaluation plan has a container for the peer observation which is AFTER the first admin observation. First
observation needs pre-conference.
● Standard: Non-beginning teachers who have completed at least 3 years consecutive experience with WCPSS and their certificate renewal date is
2021. There is no peer observation container. Three formal observation 45 min+ on all standards 1-5. Careered teachers IN license expiration year
are in this plan. First observation needs pre-conference. The summative evaluation is on all 5 standards. All certified instructional support staff on
Standard plan.
● Abbreviated: Career status teachers NOT in license expiration year, teachers that have completed at least 3 consecutive years in WCPSS not in
license renewal year, at least proficient in all ratings. Two observations Standards 1&4 20-45 min. No pre-conferences required.

*Late Hires. Teachers hired after (TBD) are on a late hire evaluation plan: full PDP, one formal (or 2 abbreviated), and summary evaluation. Put on an
abbreviated plan. (Sally has to update, not showing currently)
*Teachers hired after March 1 observed on paper
 Teachers need to bring their lesson plan for their first pre conference and on-going lesson plans to every post conference. Throughout the year teachers
should have their lesson plans for the week on their desk or other visible location. All teachers will share their Google Classrooms with Grant, Ratley,
and Morton. As part of the remote learning, Plan B and VA structure the Admin team will be accessing your Google classrooms, reviewing
asynchronous lessons and content as well as participate in Google meets. This will entail an “observation” A Peer observer can be any experienced
teacher, career or non career recommended by the principal.
