Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students are interactive with the HomCourt app that encourages
them to be engaged and active. Students are given a variety of workouts and activities that are related to
personal health and obtaining further skills related to basketball. This app is a great example of Universal
Design for Learning and I would recommend everybody to download it now and go have fun.
Lesson idea implementation: Students please sit down and get ready to be active! But first at your desktop
please go to join.nearpod.com and type in the student code seen on the board. On your cell phone or Ipad
please download the HomeCourt App. This app can only be downloaded with IOS devices, if you do not
have one please partner up with a classmate. Once downloaded please create an account it should take
less than 3 minutes and please follow the steps I have listed on the nearpod. Now please pay attention to
video I have posted on the nearpod that gives you a breakdown of the app. How awesome was that video?
So informative right? Now let’s go try this app out! The activity I would like for you to try is the reaction
drill. Move your body quickly but maintain balance so you can react quickly when targets appear. When
you ready start the workout and at the end will compare scores to see how we all did. Let’s head back to
the classroom and finish the hearpod. I have one question on the nearpod at that is what did you like from
the HomeCourt app?
Students will be assessed if they were able to download the app and were able to mess around with the
app. The way to extend this app is to ask questions of what the students would have like to be seen with
the app. An easy way to extend this lesson with this app is to have the students create a power point or
infographic explaining the importance of this app and how it affects them. Closing question of nearpod is
the conclusion of the app. Their responses will allow me to give them feedback
Reflective Practice: Having the students work with a nearpod and the app allows them to be interactive and
engaged. Having them work with the app will show them how fitness can be fun and relate to a sport they
might enjoy. To extend this lesson I could have brought basketballs and other equipment that may be
needed for them to try other activities within the app. As it pertains to technology tools this app allows you
to record yourself and collect data. So having a device that allows you to use this will have loads of
technology use tools.
