IIMSAM Official Dr. Naseer Homoud Elected for two Prestigious Awards in Jordan

In a thriving development, Akhbarna news announced Dr. Naseer Homoud- IIMSAM Goodwill
Ambassador and Director of its Middle East Office as elected nominee for its Man of the Year
Award. Dr. Homoud also received an honor from prominent Jordanian news agency Zaid
Jordan and the organization served him with Economic & Social Personality of the Year- 2010
Award.

The Goodwill Ambassador and Middle East Director of Intergovernmental Institution for the use of
Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), Dr. Naseer Homoud has been declared elected
for the prestigious Man of the Year Award-2010 in Jordan by Akhbarna. The nomination to award
was held by voting on internet and by mobile text messages. Dr. Homoud bagged a total of 90,297
votes defeating his nearest rival Mr. Abdul Hameed Shoman, Chairman of Arab Bank by a huge
margin of 4,636 votes. The voting was concluded on 28 th of February and the results were declared on
March 1, 2011 by Akhbarna, which is now also available on the news channel website.

Akhbarna announced the results adding that very soon a facilitation ceremony would be organized to
confer the award for Dr. Naseer Homoud which will be attended by several high profile and eminent
personalities from the entire Middle East Region. Akhbarna announced that under different categories
a total of 720,000 people participated in polling and Dr. Homoud received the highest votes in Man of
the Year Award category.

IIMSAM official Dr. Naseer Homoud needs no introduction. He is a renowned and well known
philanthropist of the Jordan being known across the world for his humanitarian, charitable and social
activities apart from his utmost support for sports. Widely acclaimed for his activities and social
works Dr. Homoud has achieved several accomplishments in his life in acknowledgement of his
work. The present award is the 3 rd prestigious award being conferred to him in series of 3 consequent
years. In 2008, he received award for man of the year in Jordan and Most Influential Person of the
year award in 2009.

In another landmark achievement Dr. Homoud also received the prestigious award of “Economic &
Social Personality of the Year-2010” by Zaid Jordan. The award was conferred under the high
patronage of the Prime Minster of Jordan Dr. Marouf Suleiman al-Bakhit. In a glittering ceremony
held in Amman, the award was conferred recognizing the works of Dr. Homoud in supporting Jordan
in all spheres. Other awards were also conferred in the ceremony and the honorees includes former
speaker of Jordanian parliament Mr. Abdul Hadi Majali who bagged the political person of the year
award; Jordanian Minster of Culture Mr. Tarek Masarweh; Jordanian Minster of Information Mr.
Taher Al-Adwan; President of Royal Court Dr. Khalid Al- Karaki; renowned businessman and Mayor
of Amman Engineer Omar Maani; former minister Ms. Maha Khatib and parliamentarian Ms. Remm
Badran who were conferred award under various categories.

The news agency in a statement mentioned that the title is seldom awarded and only after a very
carefully examination, as the receivers are leaders of the century, there work all thou concentrated in a
year is reflecting decades of actions and achievements with positive influence over peoples and
countries. The Award came as recognition of Dr. Homoud’s many achievements and unique vision
and support which has paved the way for several milestones in philanthropy. Dr. Homoud is a person
who really deserved this award. His works are exemplary and was the best choice for us indeed, said
the statement.

Commenting on the honor, Dr. Homoud declared “I am honored to receive two prestigious awards.
However, credit for my winning this award must also go to my team at IIMSAM, as well as my
Jordanians brothers and sisters for whose support I am very grateful”. He further added “these are the
most gratifying awards I have received so far, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart".

The sincere and honest efforts of Dr. Homoud are widely acclaimed in region and Jordan in particular.
His work for women empowerment, eliminating racial discrimination, for eradication of poverty and
for securing basic amenities for hunger and undernourished people are exemplary in itself. Dr.
Homoud is known for his exceptional work for marginalized section of society and is considered one
of the leading voices in the country on finding solutions to human issues such as malnutrition, hunger,
education, public safety- to name a few. His work under banner of IIMSAM has brought much
prestige to the organization and now IIMSAM is known as a house hold name in the region
particularly in Jordan. On regular intervals he organizes camps for marginalized people wherein food
bags, medicines and other basic amenities are supplied to people. He also supported environment and
ecology initiatives after there was a forest fire in Jordan by ensuring huge plantation of trees.

Dr. Homoud is also known for his commitment and support towards sports. He is broadly acclaimed
for his adore and support for sports and due to his profound attachment to sports, his continuous
support for sporting events all across the Middle East region is much-admired. Dr. Homoud has been
supporting and sponsoring several sporting events in Jordan and Middle East region under banner of
IIMSAM and he believes that sports should be used as a connection to unite all, irrespective is their
personal affiliations. In his view, sport events should be supported from all corners because it directly
related to ultimate benefit of mankind. One attendee of the event remarked “Jordanian people can’t
forget his support which he provided to visiting Jordanian team and delegation; he left no stones
unturned for facilitating the visit and I salute the spirit of Dr. Homoud. He is true champion in all
spheres of life; be it humanity, social works or sports”. Recently Al- Hussein Club- one of the oldest
and much acclaimed clubs of Jordan appointed Dr. Homoud as the Honorary President of the Club.
Besides other responsibilities Dr. Homoud is also Chairman of Jordanian Sports Support Committee.

Dr. Homoud was born in 1963 in Irbid city, and completed his secondary school study at Irbid
Secondary School. Since very beginning of his public life he was recognized for his activities and his
love to public, charitable and humanitarian work. He is a qualified dentist by profession. Part of what
makes him an interesting character in his personality is how he does not seem to fit into any of the
usual categories. Dr. Homoud cannot be confined to the category of merely businessman and
philanthropist as he personally takes part in humanitarian, social, political and miscellaneous activities
revolving around humanity irrespective of the region, country or continent. Dr. Homoud can be seen
across the world serving human beings despite having his hectic daily schedules as a business wizard,
as a philanthropist, as a social worker and as a Goodwill Ambassador of IIMSAM. He is also known
for his influential advocacy of human rights. He is also Honorary Member of Arab Non- Violence
Society and Arab Youth Media Forum.

Dr. Homoud though genuinely humbled by this great honour, is truly proud to be counted among his
countrymen. Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Homoud said “I am honoured to get these awards .I feel
that these awards are the call for more and sustainable action towards the united goals. I dream to
transform this world free from hunger and malnutrition; I dream to eradicate poverty but I know that
such works need collective efforts and I request all of you to join hands for ultimate benefit of
mankind on this planet”.

He urged for collective approach for accomplishment of United Nations Millennium Development
Goals. Dr. Homoud said “The Millennium Declaration symbolizes the vital commitments ever
committed to the marginalized people and they look world community with high aspirations for
changing their lives. We have to ensure the smile and happiness on their face and if we fail, destiny
shall never pardon us”. He further advocated for ‘unconditional support’ from all corners including
governments and other stakeholders towards achieving MDGs as set by the United Nations.

In his message Dr. Homoud urged people to work for humanity. He said “it is our primary duty to
work for humanity- of which we all are part of; how can we dream of a developed society if our
fellow brothers and sisters are subject to poverty and hunger”. He went on to say "let me confess one
thing candidly- the spirit of humanity is inherent in all of us, just we need to introspect ourselves and
then to think what can be done for the people who are suffering. Let’s not forget how people like
Gandhi and Martin Luther King worked for welfare of people, let’s not forget the sacrifices which
millions of people have made for working for humanity. It is our duty to carry forward the great
legacy and believe me; it would give immense satisfaction from the core of your heart”.

Dr. Homoud urged people to support IIMSAM which has undertaken several projects of production
and distribution of Spirulina to the needy peoples in pursuit of its goal to make this world free of
malnutrition. “The extensive use of Spirulina in combating hunger and malnutrition is unquestionable,
making it the most important dietary element in poverty reduction, ecological growth as well as
livelihood development. Spreading its use is the best way to end malnutrition in the societies where
hunger and poverty are prevalent to an extreme extent”, Dr. Homoud said.

Reaffirming his faith in the UN strategy in fighting hunger related issues Dr. Homoud said “we need
that political will and delivery on financial commitments by governments as agreed in several
conferences and submits while brainstorming on how to feed the world by 2050”. He further said
“there is hope in every crisis, and I believe that together we will transform this world to a hunger free
world”. IIMSAM believes that promises in the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and
poverty by half by the year 2015 can only be redeemed by serious thinking, planning and action.

Dr. Homoud also expressed his gratitude for His Majesty King Abdulla on this occasion. Dr. Homoud
further mentioned that vision of His Majesty for the future of Jordan is focused on investing in the
Jordanian citizens, creating job opportunities for the youths and in institutionalizing participation of
Jordanians in the decision-making process, which has brought transparency in local governance and
accountability as its foundation. He further said that under His Majesty direction the government
worked to implement economic initiatives and to promote the role of the private sector to achieve
sustainable economic development and to create job opportunities for Jordanians. Congratulating His
Majesty he said “starting with policy and ending with sports, you have been the first and the best, you
have been and will always be inspiring us to make the change in our great nation and to develop it to
be the best country ever, you have been showering us with peace, prosperity, safety and warmth and
we thank you for this- from core of our hearts”.
