一、 3900 Series WCDMA NodeB V200R012C00SPC401 Upgrade Guide

(1) Preparation: Arranging the USB Disk for Local Commissioning.

Procedure

1. Prepare the USB disk with a LED. The requirements are as follows: when there is no
read or write operation on the USB disk, the LED on the USB disk is ON; when there is
any read or write operation on the USB disk, the LED on the USB disk is blinking.

2. Check the compatibility of the USB disk with the NodeB. Do as follows to test the
USB disk: Insert the USB disk into the USB port on the WMPT of a NodeB that runs
normally, and wait for 3 seconds. If the LED on the USB disk blinked once, it indicates
that the USB disk is functional. If the USB disk fails the preceding test, change the USB
disk.

3. Save the related files in the USB disk according to the specified path.

a. Prepare the NodeB software package, data configuration file.

b. Store the files according to the following path.

File Specified Path of the USB Disk

NodeB software \\NodeB\Software\Software.csp

Data configuration file \\NodeB\Configuration\NodeBCfg.xml

(2) Upgrading the NodeB Software and Downloading the Data Configuration
File (on the NodeB Side).

Procedure

1. Plug the USB disk into the USB port on the WMPT of the BBU3900, as shown in
Figure 1.

2. The NodeB automatically downloads the software and data configuration file,
activates the software, and then resets. For details on the status of the LED on the
USB disk and the status of the RUN LED on the WMPT in this process, see Table 1.

(3) Check the NodeB Software version.

1. Installing the LMT on PC

Confirm the version of the LMT provided by the 3900 Series WCDMA NodeB
V200R012C00SPC401 Release Notes.
To install the NodeB LMT, perform the following steps:
Log in to the operating system as an administrator.

Double-click setup.exe in the LMT installation directory to start installing the LMT.
Install the LMT by using the default settings.
The default installation path is D:\HW LMT.

2. Setting the IP address of PC

Set PC IP as:17.21.2.16
1. On Windows XP, choose Start > Control Panel.

2. Click Network and Internet Connections, and then go to 3.

3. Double-click Network Connections. The Network Connections dialog box is

displayed. Right-click Local Area Connection.

4. Choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The Local Area Connection

5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

6. Click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box is

displayed.

7. Select Use the following IP address 17.21.2.16..

3. Log in WMPT by LMT.

Choose Start > All Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal. If the Local

Maintenance Terminal is started, choose System > Logout, or click . The User Login

dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2.

4. Check the software version.

Use the command: LST VER to check the NodeB software version. If the version is
V200R012C00SPC401. Please take off the USB disk.

Procedure

1. Ensure that the USB disk with a LED is available. Requirement: When there is no
read or write operation on the USB disk, the LED on the USB disk is on; when there is
read or write operation on the USB disk, the LED on the USB disk is blinking.

2. Check the compatibility of the USB disk with the BTS. Test method: Insert the USB
disk into the USB port on the GTMU of a GBTS that runs normally, and wait 3 seconds.
If the LED on the USB disk blinked once, the USB disk is functional. If the USB disk
fails the preceding test, change the USB disk.

3. Obtain the software package for the upgrade.

a. Decompress the software package to obtain the software package of the

USB disk.

For example, decompress BTS3000V100R012C00SPC000_VER.zip to obtain the

software package BTS3000V100R012C00SPC000.csp.

Where, V100R012C00SPC000 is the software version number for BTS upgrade.

4. Ensure that the preconfiguration file is available.

a. Create a .txt file, and rename the file Precfg.ini. Edit the Precfg.ini file to
add the following contents into the Precfg.ini file.
b. [PRECONFIG]
ALL=GTMU|MRRU
c. Save the preconfiguration file in ANSI characters.

. Store the files according to the following path.

Upgrade software package \\BTS3900 GSM\Upgrade software

package(.csp)

Preconfiguration file \\BTS3900 GSM\Precfg.ini

(2) Upgrading the NodeB Software and Downloading the Data Configuration
File (on the NodeB Side).

Procedure

1. Connect the USB disk to the GTMU through the USB port. Figure 1 shows the USB
port on the GTMU.

2. The GBTS automatically downloads the software and data configuration file, and
activates the software. After the activation, the GBTS resets. Wait until the GBTS reset
is complete. For details on the status of the LED on the USB disk and the status of the
RUN LED on the GTMU in this process, see Table 1.

Procedure

1. To set the IP address of the SMT client, perform the following steps. This section
takes the Windows XP operating system as an example. Choose Start > Setting >
Control Panel.

2. Double-click Network Connections in the displayed Control Panel window. Right-

click Local Area Connection in the displayed dialog box.

3. Choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The Local Area Connection Properties
dialog box is displayed.

4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties. The Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) Properties dialog box is displayed.

5. Select Use the following IP address.

6. Enter the correct IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Ensure that the IP
address of the SMT client is on the same network segment as the IP address
(192.168.0.72/255.255.255.0) of the base station, so that a local OM channel can be
established.

7. Click OK to complete the settings

Start the SMT. Choose Maintenance > Communication Parameter. In the Set
Communication Port Parameter dialog box, select Network Port under Select
Communication Port and set the IP address to 192.168.0.72. Then, click OK, as shown in the
figure.

Query the software version of the monitoring boards.

Start the SMT. Click Board in the navigation tree, and then double-click Board Management
in the Function pane on the right, as shown in Figure 3-2.
The Board Management window is displayed.

Checking the BTS version on the SMT

Query and record the GTMU software version.

In the displayed Board Management window, right-click the GTMU and then
choose Board Information from the shortcut menu.
The Board Information dialog box is displayed, as shown in .
