Shop Rules

1) Safety goggles should be worn at all times when in the Shop

2) Use the tools properly – keep then sharp and in their proper place

3) Everyone is responsible for the shop

a. Clean up at the end of the period- benches, floors, tools, etc.

4) Keeping up the shop…

a. Pick up pieces of wood and scrap

b. Keep floor clean

c. Keep the tools properly arranged upon the benches

d. Make safety your #1 concern while in the classroom

5) Fire- Fires are grouped into 3 main cases

a. Paper, wood, and cloth

i. For a class A fire use water

b. Oil and grease

i. For a class B fire use CO2

c. Electrical

i. For a class C fire NEVER use water, shut off power and us CO2

d. *Note location of fire extinguishers and fire blanket

6) Remember, it can happen to you, fingers can be cut off

a. Carefully watch my demonstration of all the equipment, hand and power tools

b. You must receive my permission before using any of the power equipment
 c. Never approach another student to distract him or her while he/she is using a

machine

7) Remember; never squeeze your fingers between 2 pieces of wood. This can cause

serious splinters due to the small fibers that are attached to the piece of wood.

a. Never slide a piece of wood over your hands

b. To avoid this keep stacks of wood in neat piles

c. If you need help JUST ASK

8) Nails and Screws

a. Never place them in or around your mouth because they can cause infection

b. DO NOT put them in your pockets- they have sharp edges and could cause injury

9) Many tools have sharp cutting edges

a. Never carry pointed tools in your pockets

b. Always cut away from yourself

c. Never use tools with loose handles

d. Always carry the tools you are using with the sharp edges down

**ACCIDENTS**

1) Take all accidents seriously- small ones too

2) Notify the instructor in the classroom immediately

a. Slight cuts- see me and allow to bleed

b. Burns- see me and run under cold water

c. Sliver in finger- see me may need nurse

d. Bruises- see me, I will examine

e. Your eyes- see me- Flush out eyes with water, and then I will examine
