“Blue on the Horizon”

I wear a hoodie because my color is judged,

My friend wears shades to avoid being nudged.
From lonesome alleys to crowded streets,
I see smirks, grins, hideous eyes even behind expensive, exquisite pleats.

Who am I or what’s inside me doesn’t seem to matter,

Preconceived notions in people’s mind kills me like a fish without water.
I wear a turban because I have this belief,
When I get off the bus, I hear loud sighs of relief.

I believe I am much more than the color of my skin,

But my freedom to some in this world is an unfathomable sin.
If I wear a white cap with tiny holes,
Imaginations of people will run amok with me as having destructive goals.

So, who are these people anyways?

The ones wearing these judgmental shades.
Are they so blind to not see someone for who they are?
Is it so hard to not blame everyone of a particular race and not go so far?

The world would be a lovely place without those judgmental shades,

The factories in the minds producing those shades should be torn to shreds.
Only then will there be compassion in our hearts,
Where every person is seen for who they are and not for their color, nationality or
body parts.
