Google Pay Discrimination

1) What are your thoughts about this new information about Google when compared to the
video we watched earlier this semester?
a. This new information has me taken aback. Since the video we watched earlier this
semester showed how much Google cared for their employees, but to find out that
they are neglecting their workers and not giving them proper pay. To hear this
new information is shocking because of all the benefits they give their employees
to keep them happy; they are not properly giving the amount of money that these
employees deserve causing this information to blow up. Since the ones that are
not getting properly paid are the females and the Asians.

2) What are your thoughts about not asking about previous pay history in the hiring process?
How will that impact employee compensation overall? How will that impact pay for
experience or special skill sets and how will HR compensate for these?
a. It seems to be a good idea because it gives people equal pay opportunities and get
rid of that pay disparities that would likely occur if employers during the hiring
process asked about their pay history. It won’t have that much of an impact on the
employee compensation because they would be compensated by their
performance and have the same justifications to pay the same rate, so it would
help promote equal opportunity. Depending on the level of the employer
skills/experiences would have to be justified and review to determine how much
the pay would be and should be the same across the board. HR would compensate
for these by following the equal pay act and providing evidence that they should
be compensated for this fairly.
3) What are your thoughts about the creation of a union? What would be its purpose? Do
you agree or disagree with using unions to influences/mandate the actions of companies?
a. The creation of a union will help employees have a team to back them up when
they need to negotiate terms/employee treatment in the company. It would be
used a form of mediator for the workers and employers to meet in the middle with
a compromise, so that all the workers needs are still being met and won’t hurt the
company at all. I agree with using unions to help influence certain actions of the
companies and keep them in check, so they know they are backing up their side of
the deal.

4) What other options would you suggest to help solve pay discrepancies?
a. I would suggest having pay transparency, so women or POCs know if they are
getting underpaid than their coworkers when they have the same set of special
skills.
