Lab-2

Objective:
To find the Arrhenius Law parameters (A & Ea) for a given reaction in the lab.

Apparatus:
 Batch Reactor
 Conductivity Cell

Chemical:
 Sodium Hydroxide
 Ethyl Acetate
 Distilled Water

Chemical Reaction:

Theory:

The Arrhenius equation describes the relation between the rate of reaction and temperature for many
physical and chemical reactions. A common form of the equation It predicts that a small increase in
reaction temperature will produce a marked increase in the magnitude of the Reaction rate
constant .It showed the relationship is applicable to almost all kinds of reactions. He also provided A
theoretical basis for the equation by an analogy with the expression for the thermodynamic equilibrium
Constant. Later, the numerical constants A and E were shown by the collision and transition-state
theories of Chemical reactions to represent quantities indicative of the fundamental process of chemical
reactions; i.e.,E Represents the energy of activation, and A represents the frequency at which atoms and
molecules collide in a way That leads to reaction.

Figure-2 Arrhenius plots

Looking at the role of temperature, a similar effect is observed. (If the x-axis were in "kilo degrees" the
slopes would be more comparable in magnitude with those of the kilo joule plot at the above right.)
Procedure:
 First of all set the RPM of Peristaltic pump to 14.

 Now make solution of chemicals (1L) of Sodium hydride and ethyl acetate (0.05M).

 Now switch ON the Main Power and maintain temperature at 25ᴼC.

 Replace the reactor with 0.5L solution of reactant for charging.

 Adjust the probe of conductivity meter inside the reactor turn it ON for conductivity readings.

 Adjust the RPM of agitator after switching it ON and Note the reading after the temperature
reaches 25ᴼC.

 Repeat the same procedure for finding the value K also K is used to find Arrhenius law
parameters.

For A:

We will extend the slope line and find out that it is ln 5.1 now in order to remove the ln
we will take Antilog and it appears to be 164.023
A=164.023

Conclusion:
By performing this lab we are able to find Arrhenius Law parameters for the chemicals Sodium Hydroxide
with Ethyl Acetate. And capable of find out its slope with the help of hetero line equation and from its graph
we discover that the instantly line occurs in first and 2d order. We discover that which order has directly line with
the given experimental values.
