High School: Maker Robotics for 2019-2020

Welcome to ISM Maker Robotics. This single semester course will allow you to make
awesome electronic creations that move, flash, beep, and glow. Through building
these projects, you will learn a great deal about…..

· Circuitry and Electrical Physics

· Programming

· Robot Design

· Project Reflection

The most important material that you need for Maker Robotics is your laptop. We
will be programming mainly in the Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
You can download it here. This works for Mac and PC. This is an open source,
free software that you can continue using for (hopefully) many years later. The
main type of micro-controller (robot brain) that we will use is the Arduino. This
is also open source, which means that many other countries (including the
Philippines) have legally made their own affordable clones of it. Massive amounts
of robot builders across the world are using Arduinos to invent amazing things at
increasingly crazy rates.

We will have three main units in the Maker Robotics. They are……….

· Unit 1: MonsterBot

o Small, quick activities to familiarize you with circuitry, programming,

reflection, and the tools used in robotics.

o Stationary Robot with moving parts and flashing lights

· Unit 2: Wearable Tech

Student partners will create a wearable light up costume that can be programmed to
their desires.

· Unit 3: Robo Lamp

o Students will design their own lamp that lights up with different sequences by
responding to sensors.

After the course, you will get to take MonsterBot and Robo Lamp home! Woo hoo!

Assessment and Assessment Weighting

Assessment in the High School is broken into four main standards. The two Measures
of Learning standards are combined to inform a student’s overall academic grade,
while the Learning Skills standards are more dispositional and help to build up a
picture of the student as a learner in order to improve their habits and therefore
their learning.
Measures of Learning (MoL)

We report overall achievement to students and parents by combining the grades

received in two “Measures of Learning” categories:

Standard Abbreviation
Weight (S1)

· Knowledge and Understanding K&U 50%

· Transfer of Learning ToL

Reassessment Policy – Design Technology Department

· You must reassess at the time your teacher has set. If the reassessment
is to be submitted, this must occur within a week of feedback.

· You will be given your most recent grade. The initial grade will be
recorded in Gradebook but will not count towards your final grade.

· No task can be reassessed more than once.

· You may only reassess once per semester.

· Some items are not available for reassessment and are designated as such
