Learning Goals: You will...

find a TED Talks (http://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&sort=newest) on a


technology that is a computing innovation that is of interest to you.

examine the innovation with a critical eye to demonstrate a deep understanding of the
innovation, its development, its functionality, and its relationship to big data and the other big
ideas studied in this course such as abstractions and algorithms.

select a TED Talks (http://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&sort=newest) on a


computing innovation that has had considerable impact on social, economic, and cultural
areas.

select a TED Talks (http://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&sort=newest) that


explores the potentials of that technology -- considering both the good and bad.

write a report on the artifact that you created, answering several prompts that conveys your
deep level of understanding of the artifact you created.

General Requirements

You must work alone on this performance task.

The innovation you choose should affect a significant population (more than a few hundred people).

For this performance task, the computing innovation is the TED Talks Technology
(http://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&sort=newest) you selected to explore.
Explain how your artifact elaborates or highlights a different and/or deeper aspect of the innovation than
you provided in your written responses. Demonstrate that your artifact accomplished ONE of the
following requirements:

Provided insight into a beneficial and/or harmful effect of the innovation.

Illustrated or describe an impact of the innovation on society, economy, and/or culture.

Clearly describe the computing tools, techniques, and development process that you used to create your
artifact. Your description must be clear enough so that someone can read your description and
reproduce the artifact.

Prepare and Submit the Following

Report for Support of Artifact: a type-written report in which you respond directly to several prompts -
you must convey a deep level of understanding about your artifact.

TED Talk Selection


1. Log onto your TED Ed acount.

2. Pick a TED technology talk (https://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=technology&sort=newest) .


Watch it, research it, analyze it, summarize it. See below for the specific format. Submit your work to
be shared with the class.

a. Go to the TED talks website and read over the "About TED (http://www.ted.com/pages/about) "
page -- so you know what these are and what their goal is.

b. From the TED talks home page -- choose the tag "Technology" (Alternately, you can "Show all Tags"
and include technology and other tags of interest to you. There are >=465 talks tagged Technology!).
Pick a TED talk on a technology that interests you. Watch the talk (but read on first so you know
what to watch for).

PT Explore Support of Artifact Report Instructions

After selecting a topic from Ted Talks and viewing, analyzing, and researching the information for that

topic, type your analysis and conclusions on a Google Doc. Use the following instructions to complete

this part.

1. Open your district provided Google Drive account.

2. Open your Incoming or shared folder.


3. Locate and open the Google Document AP CSP PT Support of Computer Artifact Explore Report.

4. READ CAREFULLY and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TYPED ON THE DOCUMENT.

5. Format the Support of Computer Artifact Explore Report in MLA style.

Again, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW THEM TO THE BEST OF
YOUR ABILITY.

6. Copy and Paste the following prompts into the AP CSP PT Support of Computer Artifact
Explore Report.

1. a. Explain how your artifact elaborates or highlights a different and/or deeper aspect of the
innovation than you provided in your written responses. Demonstrate that your artifact accomplished
ONE of the following requirements:
• Provided insight into a beneficial and/or harmful effect of the innovation.
• Illustrated or describe an impact of the innovation on society, economy, and/or culture.
b. Clearly describe the computing tools, techniques, and development process that you used to
create your artifact. Your description must be clear enough so that someone can read your
description and reproduce the artifact.

7. The headings and prompts in the AP CSP PT Support of Computer Artifact Explore Report
should look exactly the same as they do in the above list number.

8. Answer each PROMPT (QUESTION) presented for the computer artifact.

9. For each PROMPT (QUESTION), the answer should be in an essay paragraph form.

10. Clearly and concisely type your answers (analysis and conclusions) for each of the required
parts of the assignment.

11. You have a maximum of 200 words for each response.

12. Do not go over the word count for each prompt answer.

13. Since I have already shared the Google document with you, you do not have to share it again.

14. When you are done, download the Google document as a PDF file.

15. Save it on your network drive.
