There are several species of plants which possess mosquito repellent properties, one of those

are Atis(Annona Squamosa) which are said to have insecticide properties. A study conductive
by (Pierre Champy, 2011), proved that statement. Their study showed that Annonaceous
Acetogenins (ACGs) were toxic to insects, therefore increasing the possibility for it to become
an effective insecticide. A similar study by(Ashok Kumar, et. al, 2010) showed that Atis (Annona
Squamosa) leavescontain active compounds, namely, essential oil, terpenes, alkaloids-
anonaine, roemerine, corydine, norcorydine, isocorydine, and norisocorydine, which apparently
contributes to its insecticidal properties

Based on a study conducted by Marta Ferreira and Sarah J Moore entitled Plant-based insect
repellents: a review of their efficacy, development and testing, that aside from sugar apple,
citronella are commonly used as one of the ingredient of plant-based mosquito repellents (Malar
J. 2011). The said plant has been developed as a mosquito repellent and may play a
major role in a repellent development (Miller 1982). In additional citronella oil woks well
to treat fleas of dogs and cats aside from those it used as a herbal remedy for viruses,
and infection. Aside from citronella, we also have lemon grass, it is very popular and used for
medical and food as well as for insect repellent product, it was according to an article of new bio
tech, based on a research entitled the effectiveness of lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) as
natural insect repellent.

Lemon grass oil is used herbal teas, skin care product, fragrances, insect repellent, and for
aromatherapy (Dutta, 2007). In additional the United States environmental protection agency
considered citronella oil as a biopesticide with a non-toxic mode of action (EPA Citronella
registration factsheet, 1997). And this biopestiside are naturally occurring substance that control
or directly kill or inactive the insect or pests especially the mosquito.
Through the invention of science and technologies Atis (Sugar apple) can be formulated into a
product that helps prevent serious mosquito-related diseases.
Dr. Lleana Cruz and Dr. Lilian de las Llagas, both of UP Manila, the said name developed the
Atis Lotion Mosquito Repellent using the extract of sugar apple leaves mixed with some
available materials. The said product used in preventing mosquitos bites that causes itchiness,
inflammation, and discomfort. Aside from that it helps prevent mosquito-borne disease like
malaria, dengue, and filariasis.
