Chitchat

Princess: So Kuya Jems, what basically is a Dinner Reception?

Jemar: You know Princess, when I was young, free Food and Drinks are the first two words that come to mind
when I read/hear those words “Dinner Reception” - and the newlywed comes only third.

Princess: Uhha.

Jemar: Yes, and what I always look forward to is the Dessert. How about you Princess?

Princess: Well, same thing goes true with me.

But growing up, I realized that it’s not only that. There is more to it than food and drinks.

Jemar: Would you mind sharing to us your realizations?

Princess: Of course not. Well, first, it’s a time where relatives and close family friends come together and
celebrate with the newlywed their first meal as a married couple.

Jemar: hmmmmmm

Princess: Second, it’s a way for the couple and their family to extend their gratitude first to God, and to all
people who shared in their lives individually and will continue to share with them now that they are one.

So this evening, we all gonna meet these special people and hopefully hear from some of them later.

Jemar: Now that you’ve said that, there’s really more to a Dinner reception than food and drinks. Thank you!
Speaking of special people let’s start to know them now.

Program Proper

Princess: To formally start the program proper, let us seek God’s guidance through an Opening Prayer to be
led by _________________________. May I request everyone to please stand and feel the presence of God.

OPENING PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
Love has been your richest and greatest gift to this world.
You have the greatest love Lord, because of giving us your one and only Son Jesus to die on the cross. This is
for us to live a blessed life here on earth and spend the rest of it in heaven for all eternity.
As you are the Love itself and have commanded us to love one another, Father today we celebrate that love.
For the love between Nelson and Gen that has now matured into marriage – we thank You.
For Your presence here and now and at all times in the life of the new couple and everyone present – we
praise and thank You.
Protect, guide, and bless Nelson and Gen. Give them wisdom in every decision-making and may You be
praised always upon their life together.
All these we ask, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(after the prayer)

DOVE KISSING TRADITION

Jemar: Thank you __________________. Everyone, please be seated. The bride and groom will now release
the doves. Groom’s men please assist the newlywed.

Princess: Before we dine, let’s talk about Dove Kissing Tradition. Do you know why doves are always present
in every wedding? Couldn’t it be Eagle who could soar up high or colorful butterflies?

Jemar: Well, It is because unlike other birds, Doves symbolize freedom and commitment. Wedding doves also
represent fidelity. Do you know that, when doves find a mate, they remain with the mate for life? This is why
doves are the perfect bird to include in a celebration that honors lifelong commitment.

Princess: Ahh! So, in other words, the release of these doves would symbolize Nelson and Gen letting go of
their single life. Let us pray then, that like the doves, they will commit themselves to come home at the end of
the day no matter where their footsteps take them.

Jemar: (wait for the couple to be ready) At the count of three, newlywed releases the doves. Ready when you
are...one...two... three and off they go!!! (wait for the dove to be released) That was really beautiful!

CAKE CUTTING
5

Jemar: At this point, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to direct your attention at the couple as they do the cake
slicing.
We request the bride and groom to approach the wedding cake. Maids of honor, please assist.
Cake is a symbol of a happy married life that is filled with sweetness that the couple would enjoy from this day
forward. Let us pray that Nelson and Gen will continue to share the sweetness of love; that they will continue to
live together with their hearts pure of joy in serving the Lord as husband and wife and as a family.
Princess: On the other hand, the cutting of the cake is a task full of symbolism. The sharing of the groom and
bride of the cake to one another symbolize their union and their promise to forever provide for each other.

Jemar: It seems that our newlywed is ready. You can now slice the cake.
(after the cutting) Let us give them a big hand. Now, it’s time for Nelson to serve Gen
(after serving) This time it’s Gen’s to serve Nelson.
(after serving) Once again, let us give a big hand to our newlywed.

BEST MAN TOAST

Princess: A celebration is never complete without a toast and a bottle of good wine. This time, let’s fill
our glasses with any drink that we could get and join the best man, ______________________ for the
symbolic wine toast.

(while waiting for the best man to approach the microphone)

Jemar. The wine that the couple is about to share is a representation of life's adversities. Life indeed is not a
bed of roses, as Nelson and Gen drink the wine; they affirm their pledge of loyalty and fidelity even in the most
trying times of their married life.

Bestman; (INSTRUCTIONS:Best Man raises his glass and addresses the newlyweds as he
speaks...)

Gen you look wonderful. Nelson is blessed to have found such a wonderful woman to share his life
with. Nelson and I have been very good friends. I'm truly honored that they have chosen me to be
their best man on this most important day of their lives. Guys, I wish you both peace and happiness in
your new life together and may God bless your union.

(INSTRUCTIONS:Best Man still raising his glass and addresses the guests as he speaks...)

Everyone let us all stand and raise your glasses and join me in toasting Gen and Nelson.

(INSTRUCTIONS: Best Man waits for everyone to stand up and see to it that everyone has raised
their glasses and then say…)

Here’s to good health, happiness, good luck and prosperity to Nelson and Genra. Cheers!!!

(Everyone makes a toasts and drinks from their glasses)

Thank you ladies and gentlemen, you may now be seated.

Jemar: Thank you ______________! Let us pray for their marriage to be like wine, the longer it is, the tastier it
becomes. Meaning the longer years spent together, the happier and joyful marriage life will become for them.
I guess . . . the food is ready! You are all hereby invited to partake the dinner. Just sit back and relax as the
foods will be served to you in your respective tables. There are also available foods at the buffet table. Should
you wish to add more food, feel free to do so.

Princess: We would like to acknowledge Plaza Ibarra De Calbayog for the wonderful accommodation and
service that they are providing us here. (Pause)

Likewise, the couple is indeed grateful to all our guests tonight for responding affirmatively to the invitation.

DINNER

Princess: So while others are enjoying their sumptuous food, for your entertainment, we give you Bring it on!

(Midway of dinner)

Jemar: Ladies and Gentlemen, while you’re occupied with your food, we will be showing you a short video clip
about Nelson and Gen’s love journey. Let’s take a glance at their wonderful moments prior to this wedding day.
Please watch this.

(after the video clip)

You could see evidently that our couple is very passionate to each other.

TABLE HOPPING FOR SOUVENIR PICTURES

Princess: At this point, the newlywed would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone personally for your
presence. Nelson and Gen will now visit each table to have their souvenir picture taken with their guests. So
ready your smiles and wacky posts.
(20 minutes)

MESSAGES FROM THE PRINCIPAL SPONSORS

Princess: Allow me to share to you a great quote by Aerosmith. “Life and especially life with your
husband is a journey, not a destination.  There will always be something new to learn, there will
always be more things to gain, and there will always be plenty of opportunities for new experiences!
Marriage is a journey, which you and your husband are continuing on… whether you enjoy that
journey is up to you and him!

Let’s hear from our principal sponsors what they have to say about this. In the traditional Filipino Christian
wedding, principal sponsors give support, guidance and wisdom throughout the lives of the couples.

Jemar: The words coming from our principal sponsors are necessary as Nelson and Gen face twists and turns
in their married life. In behalf of the male principal sponsors, please welcome
_________________________________.

(after the speech)

Jemar: Thank you sir for that personal advice for our newlywed. So, that was a word coming from a husband,
now let’s hear some words from a wife and see the difference, if there would be any. Let’s call on one of our
female sponsors __________________________________.

(after the speech)

MESSAGES FROM THE PARENTS

Jemar: Thank you ______________________! (pause) Nelson and Gen are both products of parents, whose
unconditional love brought them to this day. The guidance, care and provisions of their parents from the day
they were born up to this very moment is a priceless treasure that they always cherish. Everyone, let us hear
words of encouragement and advise from the parents of the newlywed. Present here is the mother of the bride,
Ms. Elvisa A. Cardines. Around of applause please.
(talks)

Princess: Thank you for those witty words Maam.

First Dance of the Newlyweds (music: Marry Me)

Princess: As the saying goes, “It takes two to tango.” Ladies and gentlemen, it is once again my
privilege to present to you Mr and Mrs Nelson M. Enacmal for their First Dance.

(Newlyweds dances their First Dance)

Background Music: *song

(in the middle of the couple’s dance)

7

Jemar: The first dance of the groom and bride is a symbol of their life starting together.

It is a tradition of the Filipinos to pin money on the clothes of the bride and groom during their first dance.
Money is pinned by the guests to help the newlywed start a life together.

To make it organize, we will have the pinning of money by table. Let’s start with the tables at my right side.

__________________________ will give you the cue and will be assisting you as well.

(after the dance)

Thank you Nelson and Gen. Let us once again give them a big round of applause.

FIND THE NEXT BRIDE

Princess: Ok now let us all have some fun and it’s time for the traditional Bouquet Throw. At this
point we would like to request all the single ladies to please come forward for the bouquet throw. We
would also like to request the bride to come forward and take her place center stage.

(INSTRUCTIONS: Emcee motions and waits for all single ladies to come forward)

Ladies kindly take your place behind the bride and be prepared to catch the bouquet. It is said that
whoever will catch the bouquet will soon be the next bride. However, for this wedding alone, we added a
little twist to this tradition. Instead of catching the bouquet, we have prepared a dozen of roses here. Each of
you should catch one rose. After you do so, only then we shall reveal the next step.

So is everyone in? Ready when you are at the count of three the bride will throw the roses. May I also
request the audience to please join me in the counting.

(INSTRUCTIONS: Emcee makes sure that everyone is in place)

Jemar: There you have it ladies and gentlemen, our new lovely pair. And, if it would not be too much to ask we

At this point, we request that both of you remain on stage for the picture taking. The newlywed will now pose
with our lovely new pair.

Thank you Mr. _____ and Ms. ______ for your participation, you may now return to your seats.

OPENING OF THE BIGGEST GIFT

Princess: Now, we will be opening the biggest gift. I am requesting the Maids of honor to please pick the
biggest present and hand it over to our newlywed.

These gifts that we have here provide memories of a lifetime. It is to show the sincerity of our guests in
supporting our newlywed’s decision to start a family life.

Princess: Let us now see. The gift is from _________. May we request the bride and the groom to open the
gift? The gift is _________. Thank you.

Jemar: (do the same for the smallest gift)

Princess: The night and this reception have almost come to an end but for our newlywed it is just a start of
their new life together. As we each go home, may this day be memorable for all of us as it is to them. To
personally convey their heartfelt gratitude let us now lend an ear to Nelson and Gen.

(message of the newlywed)

GIVING OF TOKENS

Jemar: Thank you Nelson and Gen and break a leg on your first night! We are truly grateful not only for the
presence but also the wonderful cooperation of our principal and secondary sponsors as well as the other
members of the entourage.

Princess: We would like to request our maids of honor with some members of the bridal entourage to
distribute our tokens of gratitude to our guests. (pause for 10 sec.)

CLOSING WORDS

Princess: You know what Kuya Jems, it takes a strong and intelligent man to realize his dreams and achieve
his goals in life and love. A man that is not afraid to live life to its fullest and embrace what is truly important.
I’m here to talk about Nelson and Gen. Two people who come together today to form a union that will surely
last forever.

Jemar: I do agree Princess. Well I guess that’s about everything. We have finally come to the end of our
program. It has been a great day and a wonderful evening with you all. Once again, on behalf of the newlywed,
thank you for joining us on this very memorable event. God bless and goodnight to each and everyone.

Princess and Jemar: To God be the Glory now and forever.
