Incident: Structure Fire, Exterior Porch

Location: 217 E. Main St, Watertown NY 13601

Owner: Betsy Regan, Landlord

Situation found: Exterior porch on the side of a 3-apartment house was heavily
damaged by fire and the entire house was filled with smoke. All occupants were able
to get out of the house without injury. Fire Department units arrived on scene and
quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the porch, exterior siding and a
very minor portion of the first-floor kitchen. Crews worked to remove smoke from all
apartments and then began an investigation into the cause. Watertown Police,
Guilfoyle Ambulance and Watertown Code Enforcement assisted on scene. The
building remains occupied by the tenants.

Cause: Carelessly discarded cigarette
