Interview #3

I interviewed Carla Neloms from Jonesboro High School. Mrs. Neloms is my high school

supervisor.

Mrs. Neloms has been working at the Jonesboro High School Media Center for five

years. She received her Media Specialist degree from West Georgia. Mrs. Neloms’ job

responsibilities for the virtual setting, is to on is the orientation for new students. So she gets the

students set up with their Chromebooks, logging into their RapidIdentity and getting into their

Google Classrooms. In the building, she helps the students with print and non-print resources.

She also finds resources for teachers to use in their classrooms. She will also troubleshoot if

students or teachers are having issues with their computers or accounts. She tries to figure out the

issues herself but putting in a technology ticket. Besides her daily responsibilities, she makes

sure to meet the needs of her students, parents, teachers, and staff members. To meet the needs of

her faculty and staff, she collaborates with the teachers to help them with resources to use in the

classroom. She will also go into teachers’ virtual classrooms to teach different lessons and to

help the students to understand digital citizenship. She will also help teachers with different sites

to better their lessons or if they have questions about the sites we use in the county. She tries to

help teachers with any technical issues they might have at home such as logging in or even

understanding how to connect to their home computers. Mrs. Neloms is meeting the needs of her

students and parents by setting up with their Chromebooks, logging into their RapidIdentity, and

getting into their Google Classrooms. She helps parents if they are struggling with getting their

students logged in. She will answer any questions by phone or by email. She will also

troubleshoot if students or teachers are having issues with their computers or accounts. Mrs.
Neloms gave an example of what a daily activity would look like. The first thing she does is

troubleshoot any problems that the students or staff may have. She will answer any questions that

the parents may have and email the teachers to give them a heads up. She will also look at any

eBooks to purchase or use for her students to keep them busy and reading.

To impact technology, she believes that she impacts technology in her school. She tries to

show her students and teachers the use of online resources to help them in the classroom. Like all

Media Specialists, Mrs. Neloms deals with good and bad things about her job. The best part of

Mrs. Neloms job is to help people every day. She loves that she is able to make a difference and

have an impact. The most challenging part of her job is getting her high school students to enjoy

reading and checking out books.

Overall, after interviewing Mrs. Neloms I see that her Media Center is different from the

other two Media Specialist. Mrs. Neloms’s focus is on her students to truly understand

technology in the building. Yes, she still makes sure her students are reading and enjoying their

books, but she makes sure her students know the correct way of using technology and are truly

ready to go into the real world with their technology. I thought it was very interesting that her

main focus is technology but as I see her students enjoy being in the Media Center with her

learning about technology as well as checking out books to reads. I truly enjoyed working with

her this semester and now know my main focus doesn’t just have to be on books in the Media

Center!
