Realism
Realism. It is the manner of presenting the subject as it
is. This pertains to the real appearance of the subject.
The artist draws the object or subject that is largely different from the natural appearance
and measurement. The objects are twisted, stretched or deformed from its original shape to
create an emotional effect.
Mangling
Mangling. This method expresses the ideas or feelings of an artist in a way the
object is cut or hacked. The artist also may not display the essential part of the
subject .
Cubism
The cubist expresses his ideas in the form of cone, cylinder and sphere consisting of
geometric shapes
Expressionism
The artist expresses his emotion by making his subject distorted or exaggerated.
Symbolism
This also expresses emotions, thoughts and fantasies. The elements of the artwork represents for an
idea. Example is the Spoliarium painted by Luna gives us a glimpse of the Roman history. It
informed us about the dying gladiators who were devoid of their worldly possessions .
Impressionism
The artist does not paint a reflection of life but rather his impression of the subjects (person, light, atmosphere,
landscape, or scenes of everyday life). What those things look like to him is the concern of the impressionist.
Fauvism
This is characterized by vivid colors resulting a vibrant effect. The concern of the artist is to give enjoyment
that’s why depression is out of his theme. He does not conform with the actual appearance of the object
pertaining to its color.
Dadaism
The concern of the artist is to show in public the wickedness of the society. The
presentation is somewhat shocking and provoking.
Futurism
The artist is concerned with the view of the modern world. His works appear more
worthy and splendid with a touch of advanced technology. The subject expresses
modernization.
Surrealism
The surrealist view world as magical one, or beyond reality. He may also
present his subject with violence or cruelty
