Collaboration with Neighboring Cities
Redwood Shores Community Association (RSCA) is a volunteer
organization representing all Redwood Shores residents and
businesses. For many years we have observed a significant safety
hazard on the section of Holly Street between the Hwy 101 north
off ramp heading east and the traffic light to access Shoreway Road.
We have brought this matter to the attention of both Redwood
City and San Carlos Engineering and Traffic several times.
RSCA recently drafted a proposed solution and sent it to the San
Carlos City council for consideration, as there are plans to re-do
the 101 interchange at Holly Street and the configuration of the

fRONT Of PLANT
Shea Parsons Joint venture (SPJv) is working on finishing
up its installation of the Receiving Lift Station (RLS)
pump discharge pipes that connect the shaft to the new
headworks facility. ese pipes will deliver wastewater
from the RLS pumps to the headworks facility where large
sediment and grit are screened out and removed.
SPJv is carrying out architectural work to install stairs and
handrails around the headworks facility and large equipment
such as the bio-trickling filters (BTF), one component of the
odor control system. Bio-trickling filters treat foul air that
comes from the gravity pipeline tunnel and headworks
facility. e BTF is the first form of treatment using
biological processes to treat foul air compounds typically
generated during wastewater conveyance and pre-treatment.
e air flow passes from the BTFs to the granular Activated Front of Plant RLS Discharge Pipe Installation
Carbon (gAC) vessels for final treatment. e treated air is
then permitted to be exhausted into the atmosphere.

GRAvITy PIPeLINe
Salus, the Tunnel Boring Machine, is making consistent
progress tunneling towards SvCW’s Wastewater
Treatment Plant on its current, second drive.
Barnard Bessac Joint venture (BBJv) completed the
installation of the Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
carrier pipe in part of the tunnel constructed during Salus’
first tunneling drive. is section of tunnel spans from
San Carlos Pump Station to the receiving shaft located on
inner Bair island. A total of 187 carrier pipe sections have
been installed.
At the San Carlos Pump Station site, BBJv is constructing a vertical shaft that will be used to support the FRP structure
that will carry raw wastewater from the collection systems for the cities of San Carlos and Belmont. At this location,
BBJv will construct a connection between this vertical shaft and the gravity tunnel. Pictured is the TBM launch shaft

We will implement a comprehensive set of Covid-19 safety
protocols, including staggered resident move-ins, proper property
cleaning and disinfecting techniques, appropriate PPE equipment,
and visible signage. MHA and MidPen Resident Services staff will
continue to deliver essential onsite mental health services for
supportive residents, provide food and benefits assistance, address
social isolation with seniors through creative virtual gatherings,
and offer information about vaccine eligibility and availability.
