Skin aging is an inevitable biological phenomenon of human life. Since the skin is the
most recognizable organ, we are constantly aware of the aging process. Plant extracts and spices
have been used since ancient times. Clinically, chronological and photo-ageing can be
differentiated, but they share significant molecular characteristics. The main goal of this study
was to highlight the action mechanisms of these plant/herbal products, or their "strategies" for
combating skin aging. Some plant extracts have been shown to scavenge free radicals, protect the
skin matrix by inhibiting enzymatic degradation, and stimulate collagen synthesis in the skin.
Some plants have the potential to affect skin elasticity and tightness. Herbal concepts have a role
in antiaging cosmetics, without a doubt. On the other hand, further analysis and medical trials in
detail are always required, with a focus on the ingredient concentration of plant/herbal products,
their composition, safety, and antiaging effect period. [1] The natural skin care market is
continuing to expand at a rapid rate. In this background, research into naturally occurring anti-
aging agents is exploding, and several plant-derived products have been studied in recent years.
[2]
The demand for natural skin care products continues to expand at a rapid pace.
Nephelium lappaceum, also known as "rambutan," is a perennially common tree native and
grown all over the world. The antioxidant and antiaging properties of rambutan fruit extract have
been reported in various parts of the fruit. This chapter aims to provide current knowledge on the
antioxidant and antiaging properties of rambutan fruits, as well as the constituents responsible for
their antiaging effects. Furthermore, the antiaging cream was made with rambutan peel extract
and its antiaging properties were tested. The findings suggested that rambutan peel extract could
be used in the development of cosmetics. It is also used as an important antioxidant tactic in the
prevention and treatment of skin aging by reducing oxidative stress caused by UV radiation on
the skin. The formulation containing rambutan peels extract can be used on the skin, and it has a
strong potential for cosmetic product growth, according to the findings of many researchers. [3]
However, there is still a scarcity of facts. The use of natural products as main ingredients in
formulations was predicted by recent developments in antiaging science.[4] More clinical trials
are required to perfect the use of natural ingredients in cosmetics, but there is empirical evidence
for the safety and effectiveness of a number of botanical extracts and compounds for treating
aging skin, with the potential for many more.[5]
