Reading Assessment for Grade 5

“Respect Begets Respect”

Clara had it all. She was smart, talented and very well-spoken. She would
always get the highest marks during tests and was even elected as the class
president. Everyone looked up to her and listened to whatever she says.

However, Clara was also a bully. She used her influence on her classmates to
bully those whom she dislikes within the classroom.

One day, her classmates had had enough of her attitude that they began to
ignore her completely. Clara became an outcast. No one spoke to her or even
acknowledged her presence. Clara was hurt.

After how many days of the same treatment, Clara began to realize her
mistakes. She hadn’t been treating her classmates right and has set herself as
above them. She had hurt everyone and now they were treating her with the same
way. She approached Miss Reyes, the class adviser, and sought help on how to
apologize to her friends.

The next day, before homeroom, Clara was able to express her regret to her
friends with a heartfelt message. Her classmates realized that she meant what
she said and forgave her.

After the incident, Clara swore to never treat others any less respect than
what she would like to be shown towards herself.
