Dear (School) Parents:

I regret to inform you that a member of the (School) family and a classmate of your child.
(Student) died (when, where) after a (cause description). Our heartfelt sympathy goes out
to the (LAST NAME) family.

Today, in class, the teachers and the staff spoke to the students about the accident and
about their feelings. I am writing to ask you to be sensitive to any change in your child’s
behavior. They might wish to talk with you about it. Please listen. If you would like
additional information, please contact the school office at (TELEPHONE NUMBER).

I’m also asking you to do several things for us here at school.

1. Be extremely cautious when near/around the school.

2. Observe all posted speed limits and traffic signs.
3. Be patient and courteous to other drivers and our staff when you leave your
children in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon.
4. Do not use the teacher parking lot as a drop off/pickup point.
5. (Relay any other preventive measures as a result of the incident)
