Q4 Elaborate your original thoughts regarding importance of learning research methods subject in

project management discipline. draw your developed research model along with clear research
objectives pursued in this subject with explanation of its worth in developing your competencies or
else?

In simple, mundane language, studying Research methods can be described as being able to provide in
depth information, detailed analysis and suitable advice on a given topic after researching extensively on
that topic. It includes formulating the problem statement, referring to good sources, and explaining your
findings and observations in the form of an academic paper.

My original thoughts on the subject of research methods are that whether you love or hate research
methods, you will need the skills learnt in this course for your life as a professional and even outside it.
This can start from something as basic as finding facts about your assignments, your diet, your job, or
your life in general. Research ultimately leads to better decision making and gaining more knowledge. In
fact, the more research you do, the more you can do with and in your life.

Learning basic research skills is now lost in many educational systems as students mostly find
information from internet and this later translates into the life of project managers who are so used to
this, that performing actual research hinders their success. the Internet is a valuable tool; however, it is
not the only research skill a person needs in order to find the facts. Using basic research methods can
help you not only find the information you need, but also find information that you can trust. The
subject of Research Methods comes in handy with this regard for an aspiring project manager. It helps
him/her to learn different sampling techniques, collect and analyze data and perform different
Analytical techniques to conclude models and come up with a hypothesis. It helps him to investigate
variables and incorporate them in his practice to improve his performance and ultimately, become a
successful project manager. It can also help him to perform risk analysis. The subject of Research
methods acts as a tool that helps the project manager to translate everything learnt in the curriculum of
project management into practical application. Furthermore, other advantages of this subject, Research
Methods, for a project manager are:

 More fact corroboration: When a project manager finds a fact in one reference source that is
supported in another reference source, he/she can be assured that the fact in use for his/her
business or project is accurate.
 More viewpoints: The more resources a project manager uses; the more viewpoints he/she will
consider during topic exploration. This allows them to consider more ideas than the original
one they may have been assigned.
 More facts: When a project manager uses more research skills and sources, he/she will be able
to gain more facts for their project.
 wider frame of understanding: As different research sources offer diversified information, a
project manager can find different ways to understand the topic, depending on the manner
needed to present findings.
 Gain knowledge quickly: If a project manager needs to prepare for a presentation, he/she would
want to find the facts about their topic quickly. With the knowledge gained in this subject of
research methods, he/she will find what is needed promptly.

Research methods ultimately helps a project manager to quantify qualitative variables and perform
analysis. It helps a project manager to combine abstract and theoretical knowledge with literature. By
incorporating research methods, a project manager can apply this knowledge practically on real life
problems. In summary, the subject of Research methods acts as a tool that helps the project manager to
translate everything learnt in the curriculum of project management into practical application.

Servant Leadership Person-Job fit Project success

Collaborative culture

Project Success is at core for an organization to exist, function and succeed. Numerous studies have
explored factors that positively impact project success. Among these, leadership role of a project
manager has been one of the most important variables in recent papers for studying project success
example; (Badewi, 2016; Tabassi et al., 2016; Banihashemi, Hosseini, Golizadeh & Sankaran, 2017). On
styles of leadership the servant leadership style has been the least explored/investigated style while
transformational leadership style has received a lot of attention.

Research Objectives

 Therefore, for this paper we investigate the servant leadership style and its influence on project
success. Project success and servant leadership are directly related but there exist various other
mechanisms which intervene in this process. Therefore, there is a need to investigate mediating
variables through which servant leadership enhances project success. It is found that existing
studies have rarely focused and none of the leading researchers have theoretically and
empirically examined the mediating role of person job fit and moderating role of collaborative
culture in influence process view of servant leadership for project success. This paper aims to
bridge this gap and explain this.

 Servant leadership positively influences project success. A servant leader puts the needs of his
team members above his own. He creates a sense of community between his team members
and gains their trust by asking for their opinions in the decisions where appropriate. This process
of social exchange between employees and leaders, leads to stronger relationships, higher
engagements, more trust and increased innovation which translates in improved performance.
Furthermore, servant leadership creates a supportive context, in which employees show
determination and job fit which interrupts and intervenes with the servant leadership-project
success relationship. These mentioned attributes and mechanisms are not examined in a
relationship content between servant leadership and project success which makes it of utmost
importance and necessity to further investigate, explore and theorize that how a servant leader
effects such evaluations.

 Consequently, this research is a going to add to theoretical content of project management.

There are many projects that are currently undergoing in our country and every project has
different environment in which they are executed. Every project has different reactivity towards
its situation. This study examines the personal abilities of project managers to enhance the
project success in presence of collaborative culture in a moderating role and person job fit in a
mediating role. The study will fulfill the theoretical gap existing in pervious literature because
servant leadership is not considered popular. This study signifies that servant leaders can help
achieving project success when employees are highly motivated and trust leaders with the
involvement of cultural collaboration as an external factor. This framework will contribute
positively in a productive manner towards achievement of the desired goals and milestones of
the project along with active involvement of project manager. It will also help the new startups
of Pakistan to recognize the significance of the new variables in project success to achieve
beneficial results. Thus, the study adds in the domain of project’s success under circumstances
of Pakistan
