THE IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS IN THE DECISION MAKING

OF THE YOUTH

DESCRIPTION OF THE PARTICIPANTS:

A. She is a grade 12 student from the strand of HUMSS 19 years old in age, she is short, light
brown in color, smart and pretty. Besides she loves reading books, in love with cats, music lover, she
also loves watching videos, drinking coffees and eating lots of foods.

B. He is a male grade 12 student from the strand of HUMSS and he is 17 years old, handsome, light
brown in color, smart and happy person. Besides, he loves eating foods, loves to wear and try different
clothes and fashion, an active user of social media applications and also a viewer of different blogs of his
and her favorite influencers.

C. She is a grade 12 student from the strand of HUMSS and she is 17 years, 175 cm in height and
sometimes she is middle blocker of her team in volleyball, light brown in color, smart, pretty and very
quiet person. Besides she loves watching anime, playing videos games, a fan of PEWDIEPIE and also a
fan and lover of k-pop groups NCT such as DAY 6, MOMOLAND and BOL4.

D. She is a grade 12 student from the strand of HUMSS and she is 17 years old, white in color,
pretty, talented dancer, smart and active user of social media applications. In addition, she also loves
sleeping, dancing, singing, painting, playing instruments, and also very fan of Michelle Fox and super in
love with sunflowers.

E. He is a Senior High School Teacher, and 25 years old in age and current teaching
Empowerment Technologies, Media and Information Literacy and Creative Writing.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE:

 In this research, the researchers used the technique purposive sampling, in which they
chose their participants based on what characteristics and personality they has that may
relevant and may help to the research.

RESPONSES OF THE PARTICIPANTS:

1. Why most of the people rely their decisions to their favorite social media influencers (SMIs)?

A. It motivates the person’s mind to be optimistic because they aim is to influence people.
Hindi nila ako masyadong fan, nakakatulong naman sila pero madalas hindi, Sa mga content
naman ng mga videos nila pwedeng makakuha ng good or bad dahil positive and negative
talaga. Besides, hindi ko nga sila kino consider as a role model. Siguro, dahil idol natin sila kaya
gusto nating nag rerely ng decisions sa kanila.
B. Kasi nagiging inspiration nila yun syempre kapag inspired sila dun sa taong yun parang
ginagawa nila yung nakikita nilang ginagawa nung mga idols nila. Oo, kasi minsan nakikita mo sa
ibang social media influencers yung sarili mo kaya na iinspired ka gayahin sila. There both, kasi
hindi naman lahat ng napapanuod ko maayos yung mga content as a SMIs. Hindi lahat ng kaya
nga sinasabi na social media influencers kasi nakakainpluwensiya pero hindi lahat ng influence
nila ay pwede nating gawin or iaadapt.

C. They rely on them because they see them as a role model for them. As we know, young
people tend to respect or idolize older people with their same interests which they see well into
it. Role model because some SMIs has a good attitude when they are posting or advertising
something. Oo, nagiidolize ako kaya ni Pewdiepie siya ang sobrang iniidolo ko, kasi gusto ko
yung mga ginagawa niya pag naglalaro siya gusto ko din yung mga gamit niya. Good content ang
meron kay Pewdiepie dahil alam niya na minsan ang mga nanonood sa kanya ay mga bata pa.
Oo, katulad ni pewdiepie kasi nakikitaan ko siya na concern siya sa mga fans niya katulad nga
kanina good content lang ang nilalagay niya sa mga ginagawa niya. Syempre, iniidolo ko yun eh,
kasi yung mga unang youtuber na pinapanuod ko at agad ko nakitaan ng magandang
halimbawa. Oo, dahil hindi naman siguro nila ito ipopost kung hindi trusted and reliable, tsaka
isang oras lang naman ang nilaan ko sa panunuod nito.

D. Dahil feeling nila na yung mga nagging decisions ng mga SMIs ay makakatulong sa kanila
dahil nakikita nila mismo kung anong epekto nito sa buhay, tsaka feeling kasi nila na nasa tama
yung mga inaidolize nila sa social media. Oo,dahil napapasaya nila yung viewers nila then
nagbibigay sila ng advices na pwedeng nating iaaply sa atin. Yung mga content nung mga videos
nila ay organizers, house renovation, make-up routine, dancing, and cooking. Yes, kasi para sa
akin interested, proven and tested nila yung mga sitwasyon na yun and nakikita naman ng mga
viewers na legal account at totoo yung mga ito. Example ng favorite SMI ko is si Michelle Fox
kasi nakikita ko sa kanya kahit na marami siyang problema sa buhay nagagawa pa rin niyang
magpasaya ng tao. Karaniwang pinapakita nila is make-up tutorials, life story nila, helping others
who is needed and travel vlogs nila. Hindi, kasi yung mga ibang tao nakikita lang nila yung mali
ng SMIs ngayon kahit na ang dami nilang ginagawang maganda, namimiss judge pa din sila. Yes,
pinafollow ko sila sa mga social media accounts nila. Yes, dahil sa kanila naipapahatid nila sa
viewers nila yung mga tama at maling gawain.

They can be a role model as long as their topics are full of knowledge and sense and hindi
siya basura. Una, kasi malaking influence sila sa tao. To the extent na pati yung buhay nung
influencer na yun, ginagaya na nila. They see to it na yung influencer na yun is good, pero
sometimes you have to check and research first bago mo sila gayahin. Pangalawa,
nakakarelate yung viewer sa sinasabi nung influencer. Siguro may similarities sila sa buhay
kaya kung madala siya nung emotion niya is they can relate to each other. Parang yung sa
last statement ko, they can relate with each other. Sometimes you have to find a person
who has similarities like ours. Pero uniqueness is in the picture. Kahit nga kambal may
 differences eh. What more ikaw saka yung influencer na iniidolo mo. And siguro yung they
can find comfort in that influencer. Mas nakakarelieve kasi for some yung mga nanonood
lang ng social media influencers. Sa ngayon kasi, we depend on what we see. Kasi diba nga
sabi ko sa inyo, you learn from what you see. But you have to be careful in everything you
see. Mahirap din kasi na dedepende ka lang sa kung anong nakikita mo, maganda rin that
you conduct more information and background check para at least you know kung good or
bad effect siya. We learn from what we see, but having a background about that knowledge

be good or bad. Pero once you know what is right and wrong, you can identify the things
whether it is good or bad. As I said, i can be influenced by few, but not all. Kapag may sense,
dun ko nakikita na may mga part pala sa akin na dapat ganito ang mga gagawin ko instead
na ganito. Not really sobra, pero meron naman. Si Alex Gonzaga. Hindi rin ako ganun ka
engaged sa mga buhay nila haha. Yes I follow them sa mga social media accounts nila but I
am not that engaged since I have other priorities.

2. What are the reasons why SMIs influence people in their decision making?

A. Because they aiming to be a role model and a great influencer around the people who
surrounding them. Tsaka, ginagaya nila yung decisions ng mga SMIs. Hindi dahil may
mga toxic SMIs na nagkakalat sa social media so, walang dapat pagkatiwalaan. Oo,
nakakainfluence pa din sila kasi sisikat at sisikat pa din sila eh.
B. Dahil syempre sa popularity and famous sila kaya feeling mo tama na yung ginagawa
nila. Yes, kasi nakikita natin online yung gusto natin gawin pero hindi natin magawa pero
nakikita natin na ginagawa nila so mas na iinspired pa tayo na magpursige sa mga bagay
na yun.
C. They’re famous, they’re rich, and they have everything what their viewers want. They
also got charisma and appeals that could attract a lot of audiences. Katulad nung sinabi
ko kanina sila ang mga unang nakakaranas nito kaya mas madali nilang
maimpluwensiyahan yung isang tao. Yung iba oo yung iba hindi dahil yung iba ay walang
evidence na nakakapagpatunay sa mga binenenta nila for examples. Siguro it take a time
na makagain nang attention pero mahaba pa naman ang panahon para makagain ka ng
power kailangan lang is maging concern tayo sa mga magiging fans natin.
 D. Kasi kitang kita mo kung anong bunga nun kasi sheshare sila ng mga karanasan nila at
kung paano nila isosolve iyon. Siguro, dahil na din sa mga wisdom words nila kaya
maraming nakakarelate sa kanila. Trusted, kasi proven ko naman na sila eh. For me,
kahit hindi sikat nakakainfluence pa din sila, kasi may mga tao pa rin nakakapanuod sa
kanila kaya dun sila sumisikat.
E. Yes of course. There is a perfect timing for them. Hindi naman kasi lahat nagsimula nang
sikat, lahat magsastart sa baba muna. Yes they inspire me and give me life lessons. It can
be trusted but always have a background check first before you spread it to others. Less

mga tao. And yes, I can find relevant lessons in that particular influencer. Hindi din kasi
nga I'm after the sensible videos that they create.

3. What are the positive and negative consequences of social media influencers in our daily life?

A. Some of the negative consequences of social media influencers are when he or she
posts something very sensitive such as depression and he or she promotes it. His viewer might
be adapt or influence his audiences in terms of the way they think, and more on emotions that
are contagious especially when someone spread it on social media. However, when the SMIs
post or show something very inspirational and motivational he or she may encourage his or her
followers and viewers to think and decide in a positive way and manner they must be in. Yes, sa
negative naman ay yung nama-manipulate na yung decision making ng mga tao. While, yung
positive naman ay nakakapagbigay sila ng mga information’s sa buhay nila na kakapulutan ng
mga aral.
B. For me the positive impacts are we can we use it us our inspiration and motivation in
our daily lives, while the negative impacts are we are easy to believe in what they are saying
resulting in changing and affecting our own decision making. Syempre ,oo kasi modernize na
tayo syempre sa simpleng panunuod natin ng mga videos pag iiscroll ng mga accounts ng SMIs
so mas na iinsipred tayo sa ginagawa nila.
C. We rely on them too much and we believe in them too much. We usually spend more
time watching their videos instead of doing important things. But with their contents, we
became happy and we get too see how it feels like to do travel in this place and do games we
like have the best quality before we buy it. Masyado silang tinitingala at nawawala ang pagka
independence ng isang tao sa pagdesisyon niya kasi minsan pag sikat ka yun nga minsan kaya
mo talaga mag manipulate ng decision kasi idolo mo ito sa tingin mo lahat ng gagawin niya ay
tama kaya gagayahin mo.
D. Positive kasi may mga natutununan tayo sa kanila negative kasi hindi na natin maiwasan
na sumubaybay sa kanila di rin natin alam na nakakalimutan na natin may taong pwedeng
magpassaya iyak, galit satin nan nandyan lang malapit sa atin. Oo, syempre minsan yung mga
sinasabi nila hindi na angkop sa mga sa mga viewers nila. Yes, madami dahil siguro yun yung way
ng pageexpress nila. Meron, kagaya na lamang ng huwag magpapadala sa mga sinasabi ng ibang
tao at always think positive. Sa tuwing nadodown ako iniisip ko lang yung mga bagay na
 inaadvice nila at dun ko sila naiaaply sa sarili ko. Yes, naiinspire nila ako sa mga oras na
conscious ako sa sarili ko dahil sa mga SMIs natuto akong mag-ayos at alagaan yung sarili ko.
POSITIVE- Naaply yung pagiging good vibes and inspired din kami sa kanila lalo na sa
pinapakita nila and then lagging sinasabi na wag hayaan na husgahan tayo ng ibang tao.
NEGATIVE- Minsan akala nila yung mga words na nasasabi nil ay nakakatuwa yun pala
nakakaoffend na sila ng mga viewers nila.

E. Yes, in all aspects, may positive and negative impact siya. Una, positive siya kasi pwedeng yung
topic niya is about how life goes on. Syempre kasi dun tayo sa totoo lang and talagang meron
din siyang life lesson na matututunan mo. Yun nga lang sa negative side, you have to research
on what you see. Kasi minsan nadadala tayo sa mga "flowery" words nila. Kung sa tingin natin
maganda yun na. Pero once you found out kung anong ibig sabihin, there's a certain negative
impact on us. Sa ngayon kasi, we depend on what we see. But you have to be careful in
everything you see. Mahirap din kasi na dedepende ka lang sa kung anong nakikita mo,
maganda rin that you conduct more information and background check para at least you know
kung good or bad effect siya. We learn from what we see, but having a background about that

4. How does social media influencers influences the perspective of the people?

A. Because most of the SMIs are persuading the netizens in their own perspective through
posting something influencing in their social media platforms and applications.
B. Maybe, because by the use of technology and social media, people are more often think it
is all right and fine because it is trending resulting into the rise of social media influencers.
Kung ano syempre yung mga bagay na gusto nila syempre habang pinapanuod mo sila mas
maiicourage ka na bilhin din yung product na meron at binili nila.
C. Some give right information’s from trusted sources. Some just give their opinions and fans
still believe them. Sobrang nakakaapekto ito dahil nakikita ko na maraming kilalang SMIs
ang mga GEN Z mga kaedad natin minsan nakikita ko din na kung araw-araw nilang
pinapanuod nila yung ginagawa nung mga SMIs na naadopt din nila ito at maaring gawin
din nila ito sa pang araw-araw.
D. Naiimpluwensiyahan nila tayo kasi sa kanilang galling na pinapakita nil sa pananalita nila na
para sa atin ay nakakatuwa at tingin natin ay maganda yun para sa atin. Gamit din yung
mga salitang nakakainsipred o yung mga quotes nila na naadopt natin, dahil dito
naiimpluwensiyahan nila ako as a student and as an individual. Tsaka, tested and proven na
din yung mga sinasabi or pinapahiwatig nila.
 E. Of course. Yes they inspire me and give me life lessons. As I said, we learn and depend on
what we see. Since sa panahon ngayon gusto ng mga kabataan is instant information,
doon na sila babase sa perspective nila. And yun nga, kung ina-idol mo yung tao, the
tendency is minsan iniimitate na natin sila. Wala naman masama dun as long as you know
your limits. RESEARCH AND BACKGROUND CHECK. Dahil hindi lahat ng nakikita natin ibig
sabihin ay totoo na. SOCIAL MEDIA is deceiving; it can manipulate everyone's mind. Once
you research on that particular topic, you have the guts to tell them that this topic is legit
or not legit. Tinetake ko siya ng buong puso. Ineembrace ko yung lesson na natutunan ko
and para maging inspiration din sa mga tinuturuan ko. As I said magiging credible yan kapag
alam mong may nakuha kang impormasyon and kung nangyare na din sayo yung sitwasyon.

5. How does social media influencers affects the decision made by people in their daily lives?

A. Because the netizens are being controlled by SMIs through because of what they posted in
their social media applications leading them in affecting their own decisions in their daily
lives.
B. For me, it is because of the words of wisdom which is the primary causes that make them
easily to believe and making them to influence their decision making. Nakabase lang tayo sa
kanila kaya kung ibang gusto nilang gawin kahit hindi natin gusto ginagawa pa din natin kasi
may influence at malakas yung influence na yun sa atin.
C. SMI growth is very large nowadays with just a phone and a youtube account can basically
become SMI. Seeing more and more SMI and knowing they get money and fame from their
views affects people that they want to be just a SMI too. Sabihin sa followers nila na wag silang
masyadong asahan sa paggawa ng desisyon nila sa araw-araw kailangan mag explore din tayo
dahil di naman lahat ng sasabihin ng SMIs na ito ay tama minsan may mali din ito na di angkop
sa atin.
D. Ang epekto nito sa pagdedesisiyon ay minsan naaply na natin yung mga kanilang sinasabi
halos di na natin makalimutan at sa tingin natin habang tumatagal ay tama yun. Siguro, dahil sa
panahon ngayon mas naniniwala tayo sa kanila dahil sa mga flowery words nila or yung words
of power at yun yung dahilan ng pagbabago nito sa decision natin araw-araw. For me, trusted
source and SMIs kasi base na din sa experience ko base sa mga sinasabi nila.
E. Wala pa naman. I get to reflect in making my decisions. Hindi naman sa lahat ng
pagkakataon is social media and magbibigay sayo ng decision. Sayo pa din nakasalalay kung
gagawin mo siya o hindi. Minsan kasi kung alam mong nangyare sayo yun, talagang tatamaan
ka eh. Hindi naman siguro nakakalimot na nangyare sayo yun. Siguro yung iba patay malisya na
lang para wala na lang masabi yung ibang tao. Tinetake ko siya ng buong puso. Ineembrace ko
yung lesson na natutunan ko and para maging inspiration din sa mga tinuturuan ko. As I said
