Significance of The outcome of this research would be a great benefit to the following
the study population:
Students. Freshmen and sophomore students under the BS
Psychology Program would take advantage of this study mainly
because they are the ones who will participate in the next qualifying
exam in the upcoming months. In addition, the results of the overall lived
experiences may contribute to their understanding and therefore have
the idea on how to handle or deal each situation before, during, and

system needs a change or maintain it the same throughout every school
year. Moreover, this research would probably provide information that
are useful in enhancing the totality of the exam.

The campuses. The entire campuses of Cavite state university can

benefit this study as well as the other variables. Facilitators and
administrators may give assistance to this exam and this will help them
to evaluate or make a further research about this.

The researchers. Since researchers are also part of this study,

beneficiaries are observed to themselves too. Noted that they are the
ones who did this research, this becomes their platform to explore
deeper, think wider, and do better the next time around.

Future researchers. Future researchers can definitely gain to this study

due that this can be their basis and the source of relevant information
that they may use for related research.

Conceptual
Framework

This research focuses on hypotheses about psychological

events in terms of behaviorism, theory of readiness and theory of effect.
Researchers apply the theory of behaviorism pioneered by Watson and
Skinner, it shows that external factors affect the mental state of a
person. Academic-related anxieties have also been found to negatively
impact student performance and achievement outcomes (Barrows,
Dunn, & Lloyd 2013) Students who fail to pass the exam will have the
same argument with the theory, significant to McMartin(2020) endorsed
that failure in school plays a significant role in forming negative image,
especially when a student’s self concept is negative to begin with. This
research will demonstrate how students who are unqualified cope with
Theoretical
any of these situations. In addition to that Thorndike modified the law of
Framework
effect to state the rewards for appropriate behaviour always
substantially strengthened associations, whereas punishments for
inappropriate responses only slightly weakened the association between
the stimulus and the wrong response (Britannica, T. Editors of
Encyclopedia 2020) This falls on how parents and students deal with the
outcomes whether they take it positively or negatively. The theory of
readiness based on Thornslike major laws, It is a satisfying state of
affairs results when an individual is ready to learn and is allowed to do
so. Being forced to learn when not ready, or being prevented from
learning, results is an annoying state of affairs. The research depicts
how students prepare for the upcoming psychologist qualifying exam.

Scope and In order to proceed to discussion, the study will gather

limitation of the information as it will use selected 10 to 30 respondents with the criteria
study
of those who did not meet the passing grade or failed in in 2021
qualifying exam for Bachelor of Science in Psychology. The
respondents will be selected regardless of their demographic profile.
The study will be conducted within the area Cavite State University Imus
Campus only. The students that are selected are those who are taking
and pursuing other course. The study will also utilize a
phenomenological design to deal with the experiences of the
participants. A convenience and purposive sampling technique will be
used in collecting data. In gathering the information, the study will use
an effective interview. With this type of collecting data, the researchers
will use the advantages of the internet and the semi structured interview
where there are prewritten questions but the follow up questions are
more important. With the help of the interview, it can gather the
experiences and views of the respondents.

METHODOLOGY

That study will utilizes the Phenomenological research design as

it was intended to find out the experiences of the selected respondents.
With this type of design, it will help the researchers to dwell into the
phenomena and the lived experiences of those who did not meet the
passing grade in 2021 qualifying exam for Bachelor of Science in
Psychology. By this, it will help the research to have more
comprehensive and with reality. In it the most appropriate research
design as the primary objective of which is the direct investigation and
Research
description of phenomena as consciously experienced, without theories
Design
about their causal explanation and as free as possible from unexamined
preconceptions and presuppositions.

Phenomenology is an approach to qualitative research that

focuses on the commonality of a lived experience within a particular
group. The fundamental goal of the approach is to arrive at a description
of the nature of the particular phenomenon (Creswell, 2013).

This study will get participants from the qualifying examination

takers, specifically those who failed the said event. Examinees are
mostly composed of 1st year (Freshmen) and 2nd year (Sophomores)
students of the undergraduate program, Bachelor of Science in
Respondents of Psychology. The researchers will select 10 – 30 qualifying examinees
the study
who failed as the respondents and will garner through the use of
convenience and purposive sampling technique. The researchers will
select respondents regardless of their demographic profile.

Sampling In this study, there are two sampling techniques that the
Technique researchers will utilize. For the researchers to easily collect data, Non
Probability Sampling will be used. It is based on non – random selection
that is why not every individual has a chance to be included. The goal of
this kind of research is to understand the event or situation of small
groups or under – researched population and not to test hypothesis.
Likewise, this research will find out the lived experiences of those who
failed during the 2021 qualifying examination. Under this sampling
method is Convenience and Purposive sampling technique. Purposive
sampling will apply first for the researchers tend to find respondents who
will fit in the said criteria. After this, Convenience sampling would be
employ to conduct the interview process based on their availability.

The study will be conducted within the campus of Cavite State

University Imus. The study will find those who did not meet the passing
grades and fail the 2021 qualifying exam for Bachelor of Science in
Psychology. In order to gather the information, the researchers will only
look for those who continue other course in the said locale. The place
was selected because it contains the said population that passed the
Research Locale criteria of the study as the respondents. Cavite State University Imus
Campus is one of the premiere universities that specializes different
programs such as Bachelor of Science in Psychology. As the mission
and vision of the university is to set the standard for a highly competitive
and morally upright individuals, a qualifying exam was implemented.
This exam will test the ability and mastery to the subject that will
improve the quality of education.

Instrumentation In gathering the information, the study will use an effective

interview. With this type of collecting data, the researchers will use the
advantages of the internet. Due to the pandemic, the interview proper
will be done with use of Messenger video chat and Google meet. The
researchers will use a semi-structured interview wherein there are
prewritten questions but the follow up questions are more important. As
the researchers wanted to collect qualitative, open-ended data and to
explore participant thoughts, feelings and beliefs about a particular topic
and to delve deeply into personal and sometimes sensitive issues such
as the topic of those who did not meet the passing grade in 2021
qualifying exam for Bachelor of Science in Psychology. With the help of
the interview, it can gather the experiences and views of the
respondents.
