Pre-Assessment Analysis: Whole Class

Based on the work that the students submitted, the class has a good general idea of how to form and
opinion, and every student at least stated their opinion in their writing, however a lot of the students did
not restate their opinion, they just simply put yes or no. We will focus on writing strong introductions that
states their opinion in a complete sentence and includes another statement or question that engages the
reader. Most students did not include transition words between their ideas so I will incorporate an activity
that helps them practice using linking words. The number of reasons that students included varied a lot,
but all of the students at least included one reason that supported their opinion. We will talk about the
importance of including multiple reasons to change our readers mind. Lastly, the students will need to
gain a better idea of why conclusions are important and how to make them strong and impactful to
support their writing.
