We use the present perfect progressive to talk about:
•• the duration of an action that started in the past
and is continuing now
They have been arguing about this for three hours /
since 2 p.m.
•• how someone has spent their time recently
My friends have been chatting all evening.
•• Stative verbs are used to express a state, rather
than an action. We don’t use these verbs with the
progressive form.
