Background/Rationale

Stress can be a mental state or a physical ailment. Humans' physical and mental reactions
to changes, events, and in their lives are referred to as stress. It can be also referred to these
two words such as tension and anxiety. Stress occurs when individual demands do not match
the resources available or meet the individual's needs and motivation also if the workload is
too large for the number of people working. Workplace tension, on the other hand, is the
negative physical and emotional reactions that may occur when there is a disagreement
between the employee's job demands and their level of control over fulfilling those demands.
In general, high demands in the workplace combined with a lack of control over the situation
can lead to stress.
Workplace stress management has been an obligation by almost all companies around the
globe. It is due to the stress in the workplace as a growing issue around the globe, impacting
not only workers' health and well-being, but also company productivity. Workplace stress
may originate from a variety of sources or be triggered by a single incident. It can have an
impact on both workers and employers. Any stress is thought to be healthy (can be called as
"challenge" or "good stress"), but when stress becomes too much for you to manage, mental
and physical changes can occur. According to a Regus International study, over 42% of
Filipino employees said their stress levels have increased in the last few years. Meanwhile,
according to a Grant Thornton International study, 76% of Filipino business owners are
really stressed, with heavy workload being the primary cause. Stress at work has a negative
effect on both employers and workers. “Stress physically wears out the body,” said Eduardo
Janairo, director of the Department of Health-National Capital Region. San Miguel
Corporation is indeed a big business with up to 28,586 employees. Larger organizations tend
to have more stress because of a greater workload and different factors that will be known as
we conduct this study.
The definition of stress as a negative psychological condition with cognitive and
emotional components, as well as its impact on the wellbeing of both individual workers and
organizations, is gaining traction. Furthermore, there are now stress theories that can be used
to relate the experience and effects of work stress to exposure to work hazards and the
potentially adverse health effects of such exposure. The application of such theories to the
perception of work stress allows for a management approach to work stress through the use
of the control cycle concept. In other areas of health and safety, such an approach has proven
to be successful. San Miguel Corporation, through the different programs offered for work-
related stress, will be tested with its effectivity to the respondents of this study.

E. Scope and Delimitation

The theories we've chosen are important and appropriate for our research topic and
question. In the theory section, we looked at stress from a variety of perspectives, including
stress in the context of emotions, as well as stress caused by internal and external causes. We
agree that the theories we've chosen are extremely important to the thesis subject and research
issue, and that they make a lot of sense.

In the analytical results, we conducted our study with San Miguel Corporation
employees. The people who took part in our survey do not represent the entire workforce of the
company. Furthermore, since there has been little research done on the stress of San Miguel
Corporation workers, we were unable to locate any previous research done by other authors on
the topic.
According to the official website of San Miguel Corporation, the company has 28,856
from various ethnic and occupational backgrounds. However, only 30 workers in San Miguel
Corporation's various divisions, ranging in age from 22 to 45, were considered in this study's
sample.
We attempted to avoid prejudice by selecting respondents of both genders. It's likely that
the people who took part in our survey don't represent the entire San Miguel Company
workforce. Employees of almost every form of company, on the whole, feel overwhelmed at
work. However, the causes of stress differ from one world to the next and from one organization
to the next.
