1. Communication is a process.
Process - a series of actions which are carried out in order to achieve a particular result.
2. Communication occurs between two or more people (the speaker and the receiver).

3. Communication can be expressed through written or spoken words, actions (nonverbal), or both
spoken words and nonverbal actions at the same time.

Verbal communication is the use of sounds and words to send or encode a message. Nonverbal
communication is communication without words. You communicate nonverbally when you gesture, smile
or frown, widen your eyes, move your chair closer to someone else’s, wear jewelry, touch someone, raise
your vocal volume, or even say nothing.The essential elements of the process of communication are the
message, the sender, encoding, the channel or medium, the receiver, decoding, noise, the feedback, and the
context,

Elements of Communication
• Message - the verbal and/or nonverbal content that must be encoded by the sender and decoded by
the receiver
• Sender – the communicator .. the person who initiates a message
• Encoding - the act of producing messages or putting these ideas into a code that can be interpreted
• Channel – the medium through which the message passes or how the message was sent
• Receiver - or interpreter , the person to whom a message is directed
• Decoding - The act of receiving messages (listening or reading)
• Feedback - a response from the receiver indicating whether a message has been received in its
intended form.
• Context- the setting and situation in which communication takes place
• Noise - anything that interferes with the accurate expression or reception of a message

ANTAS NG WIKA
Nahahati ang antas ng wika sa dalawang kategoryang Pormal at Impormal. Sa bawat kategorya ay
nakapaloob ang mga antas ng wika.
A. PORMAL
Ito ang mga salitang istandard dahil kinikilala, tinatanggap at ginagamit ng higit na nakararami lalo nan g
mga nakapag-aral ng wika.
1. Pambansa-mga salitang karaniwang ginagamit sa aklat pangwika/ pambalarila sa lahat ng paaralan.
Ito rin ang wikang kadalasang ginagamit ng pamahalaan at itinuturo sa mga paaralan.
Halimbawa:
Hindi dapat hayaang mapag-iwanan ang wika at kinakailangan ng patuloy na paggamit at pagtangkilik
dito
2. Pampanitikan o Panretorika- Ito naman ang salitang gamitin ng mga manunulat sa kanilang mga
akdang pampanitikan. Karaniwang matatayog, malalalim makukulay at masining.
Halimbawa:
Ang kaluluwa ng pananaliksik ay wika; kung ang ginamit na wika ng pananaliksik ay banyaga,
nawawala ang tunay na espiritu ng katotohanan dahil sa isip lamang ang tinatalima, nawawala at nagwawala
ang kaluluwang katutubo.
B. IMPORMAL
Ito ang mga salitang karaniwang palasak, pang-araw-araw na madalas nating gamitin sa pakikipag-usap
at pakikipagtalastasan sa mga kakilala at mga kaibigan.
1. Lalawiganin- Ito ang mga bokabularyong dayalektal. Sa mga particular na pook o lalawigan lamang
gamitin ang mga ito. Makikilala ito sa kakaibang tono, o tinatawag ng marami na punto.
Halimbawa:
Tagalog-Batangas: Ala, e kainaman at ika’y napadpad dine sa aming lugar.
Waray: Maupay nga adlaw sa tanan!
2. Kolokyal- ginagamit ang mga salitang ito sa mga pagkakataong impormal. Maaaring may
kagaspangan ang mga salitang nabibilang sa antas na ito ng wika. Maaari namang maging repinado ayon
sa kung sino ang nagsasalita. Isinasaalang-alang din sa antas na ito ang mga pinaiikli ng isa o higit pang
salita.
Halimbawa:
Nasa’n na ba kasi ‘yong hiniram mo sa ‘kin? Pa’no mo pa ‘yun masosoli sa .kin?
3. Balbal- tinatawag ito sa Ingles na slang. Sa mga pangkat-pangkat nagmumula ang mga ito upang
magkaroon ng sarili nilang code. Ang antas ng wikang ito ang pinakadinamiko.

C. MGA GAWAIN
Gawain 1:

Isang mapagpalang umaga po sa inyong lahat. Sila'y tangkilikin sapagkat sariling kultura dito'y
masasalamin. Ang wikang Filipino ay kasalukuyang humahanap sa proseso ng istandardisasyon, bakit ko
nasabi? Sapagkat ito ay patuloy na nag babago, umuusbong, May nawawala at may nirerebisa kung saan
na kakaroon ng kalituhan sa kung ano nga ba talaga ang dapat? Para maging ganap ang wikang pambansa,
kasabay din nito ang pagkalingat sa mga wikang katutubo. Nakalulungkot lamang isipin na ang wikang
katutubo ay unti-unti nang namamatay.
Isinasaad sa pananaliksik mayroong 39 na wikang katutubo ang nanganganib nang mamatay kung ito
ay:
UNA, kung hindi maisasaayos ang sistema nito;
PANGALAWA, kung hindi maipapasa ang wika ng mga matatanda sa nakababata;
PANGATLO, kung tanging matatanda na lamang ang nag sasalita nito?;
At ang PANGHULI, kung hindi na ito ginagamit ng kahit sinong buhay na tao?
Isinasaad sa Saligang Batas ng 1987, Artikulo 14, Seksyon 6: "Ang wikang pambansa ng Pilipinas ay
Filipino. Samantalang nililinang, ito'y pauunlarin at pagyayamanin pa, salig sa umiiral na mga wika ng
Pilipinas at sa iba pang mga wika. Hinahabol ng Komisyon sa wikang Filipino na maisalba ang Wikang
Katutubo sa iba't ibang paraan, pagbabatid ng Ortogropiyang Pambansa sa SHS mag-aaral, paglunsad ng
mga palihan o seminar upang bumuo ng mga resolution sa pagrereserba ng wikang katutubo, paglulunsad
ng mga Music Festival na tinatampok ang wikang katutubo, patimpalak sa pagsasaling-wika mula sa wikang
Filipino papunta sa Wikang katutubo, pagtampok sa Cinemalaya at Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipinong panoorin

mula sa iba't ibang katutubong kultura.
Ilalahad ko kung papaanong ang wikang katutubo ay mananatiling buhay. Kung kanina’yaking sinabi
kung paanong naglalaho ang katutubong wika, ngayon naman ay kung paano ito mapananatiling buhay
ayon kay Prof. Pat V. Villafuerte;
UNA, kung patuloy itong ginagamit;
PANGALAWA, kung patuloy sa paggawa ng mga akdang pampanitikan
IKATLO, inaawit at ginagawang pelikula
At ang PANGHULI, itinuturo sa susunod na henerasyon.
Sa kasalukuyan, kasama natin ang ating mga mahal sa buhay ngayong Marso 15 hanggang sa mga
sandaling ito sa panahon ng kwarantin. Samantalahain nating magpaturo o mag-aral ng wikang katutubo
kung saan isinilang ang ating mga magulang, tiya/tiyo at lolo’t lola. Isang paraan ito upang maging bahagi
tayo sa pagpapanatiling buhay ng ating mga diyalekto.
Samakatuwid, ang dibersidad ng wika sa ating bansa, at ang matalinong paggamit sa mga ito, upang
makapaglunsad ng isang wikang pambansa, ay siyang mag bibigkis sa ating lahat, na maging isa sa diwa sa
kabila ng ating pagkakaiba-iba. Mapiya Kapipita sa mga kapatid na Muslim. Makasta nga Aggaw sa Ibanag .

OBJECTIVE: Explain that the Earth consists of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter
and energy flow.

Earth science looks at the entire planet as a system of interacting parts called subsystems.
Although energy enters earth subsystem in the form of solar radiation and leaves as infrared,
earth can be considered a closed system with respect
to how matter is confined within the planet.

A closed system is a system in which the only thing


that can be transferred with its surroundings is energy.
A sealed box is a perfect example of a closed system:
nothing that's contained within it can come out, and nothing
on the outside can come in. Fig 1.6 Closed system: exchange of
energy but negligible

The earth receives energy from the sun and returns some of this energy to space.
Earth’s Subsystems
Earth is composed of fours subsystems: Geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere. It
may be important to note that humans are not part of the biosphere, and that human lives depend on
the interaction of the four subsystems.
1. Geosphere – Refers to the solid earth that composed of naturally occurring aggregate of mineral,
organic material, or natural glass called rocks, and loose particles of rocks blanketing the surface of
earth called regolith.

How Earth subsystem Interact to each other

1. Geosphere: Interactions with other Earth System components


 Atmosphere: volcanism spews significant amounts of gases into the atmosphere. For example,
volcanoes inject large amounts of sulphur dioxide to the upper atmosphere, resulting in global
cooling.
 Hydrosphere: The formation of many minerals involve incorporation or release of water. Also,
water speeds up chemical reactions that produce or destroy minerals, and aids in the melting
of rock.
 Biosphere: Nutrients released from rocks during their breakdown are dissolved in water (to be
used by aquatic plants).
2. Atmosphere – The atmosphere consists of four unique layers (the troposphere, the stratosphere,
the mesosphere, and the thermosphere).
Atmosphere: Interactions with other Earth System components
 Hydrosphere: The gases of the atmosphere readily exchange with those dissolved in water
bodies (e.g. oceans, lakes, etc.)
 Biosphere: The atmosphere supplies oxygen and carbon dioxide that form the basis of life
processes (photosynthesis and respiration).
 Geosphere: Gases in the atmosphere react with water to produce weak acids that aid in the
breakdown of rock.
3. Biosphere - The biosphere is the “life zone” of the Earth, and includes all living organisms (including
humans), and all organic matter that has not yet decomposed.
Biosphere: Interactions with other Earth System components
 Atmosphere: Life processes involve a many chemical reactions which either extract or emit gases to
and from the atmosphere (e.g. photosynthesis consumes carbon dioxide and releases oxygen,
whereas respiration does the opposite).
 Hydrosphere: Evaporation of water from leaf surfaces (transpiration) transfers water to the atmosphere.

 Geosphere: The biosphere is connected to the geosphere through soils (mixtures of air, mineral matter,
organic matter, and water). Plant activity (e.g. root growth and organic acid production) are also for the
mechanical and chemical breakdown of the rocks.
4. Hydrosphere -The hydrosphere contains all the water found on our planet. Only about 3% of the water on
Earth is “fresh” water, and about 70% of the fresh
water is frozen in the form of glacial ice.
Hydrosphere: Interactions with other Earth System
components
 Atmosphere: Water is transferred between the
hydrosphere and biosphere by evaporation and
precipitation. Energy is also exchanged in this
process.
 Biosphere: Water is necessary for the
transport of nutrients and waste products in
organisms.
 Geosphere: Water is the primary agent for the
chemical and mechanical breakdown of rock
(weathering), to form loose rock fragments and soil, and sculpts the surface of the Earth.

provides the medium for cloud and rain formation in the
atmosphere. The atmosphere brings back rainwater to

 In what way do the geosphere and hydrosphere
connect? Water provides the moisture and medium for
weathering and erosion of rocks on in the geosphere.
The geosphere, in turn, provides the platform for ice
melts and water bodies to flow back into the oceans.
 The atmosphere provides the geosphere with heat and
energy needed for rock breakdown and erosion. The
geosphere, in turn, reflects the sun’s energy back into
the atmosphere.
 The biosphere receives gases, heat, and sunlight
(energy) from the atmosphere. It receives water from the
hydrosphere and a living medium from the geosphere.

How familiar are you with the language of academic text? When do we say that
language is academic?
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
 Distinguish the language of academic text

 Differentiate the language of academic text

Language is the soul of all human beings. Everyone has his own language. Language enables
everyone the ability to communicate and interact with one another, ask, respond and transact
business. We acquire our language from our home since birth. This is the language we use to interact
and process communication with the members of the household and people in the neighborhood.
How different is the language we use at home and in school? When we reach school age, different
form and style of language is used. We are now exposed to what is called the academic text.
Academic text is composed of language that is highly structured. There are several rules to
follow and should be followed. Unlike when we have not attended any formal education, we speak
any manner we speak and we do not know the system of speaking, reading and writing. We never
pay attention if the subject agrees with the verb or the time of action agrees with the verb. We do not
know this so-called verb in particular as part of the speech and that there are about eight parts of
speech. We do not know that the word follows certain rules in spelling. In other words, the structure
of the word, the sentence and the whole discourse follow standard format. For the word alone, the
etymology or the beginning of the word and even the formation of the word has its system. How
words came into existence and known to all. Has its own historical background. After learning the
word, we process phrases, from phrases to statements, from statements to paragraphs and from
paragraphs to discourse. The structure of the sentence is also learned. The subject -verb-tense
agreement. The number of the subject and tense of the action should agree with the verb. In academic
text, appropriate use of capital letters is a must. Correct usage of punctuation marks must also be
incorporated in the writing of compositions. Academic text also instructs the correct diction, that is
the proper use of the word according to the context of the statement. It is also a must that correct
pronunciation and enunciation is adapted. These are some of the sets of systems in the academic text
which we use in writing research, essay, discourse analysis, reports, speech which may be required
in academic endeavor.
