Q7. The following text is for questions number 7 and 8.
New York is the capital city of the world and it certainly creates a beautiful site surrounding. But in
the central of this exciting, noisy, polluted city there is a place to find peace and quiet. A short walk from
busy Fifth Avenue in Manhattan you’ll find Central Park. Central Park is the green heart of New York City
and over 25 million people come here each year to escape the city. People run, swim, climb or simply sit and
read a book in the huge park’s different place And it’s not just for people. Lots of rare birds have made their
home in the park and there are legends of big cats hiding in the dark trees.
Although it looks completely natural, the park is man-made, created over 150 years ago. Frederick
Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed the park at a time when the city was a very crowded, dirty and
unhealthy place to live. They wanted to make a place where rich and poor people could find fresh air in the
dirty city. As a friend of mine always tells me, “Life in New York would be impossible without Central
Park”.

Parents have an important role in controlling and taking care of their children. Active parents
understand that parent’s involvement in children’s lives is the best way to ensure their children’s success as
happy and independent young adults. Parents can do several things to really get involved in their children’s
daily lives.
Firstly, parents should set times and dates to do things together. It does not have to be a big event.
They can simply schedule some time to spend together. Secondly, they should praise their children for
everything they do. Praising only takes two minutes but it can make your children’s whole day. Thirdly, they
should listen to their children and be interested in what they are saying. Their children will tell them about
their problem if parents listen and give their opinions wisely. Fourthly, they have to set limits and give
responsibilities. Just like everyone else, children do better when they stay within boundaries and
accept responsibilities. Fifthly, they have to takes meals together in the dining room. There is something
about food that gets a conversations going. They should try to have a meal together at least 4 times a week,
to remain actively involved with their children.
From the explanations above, parents should stay involved with their children. Parent’s involvement is

Q16. The following text is for questions number 16 to 17.
I, Milton Friedman was born on July 31, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the fourth and last child and first
son of Sarah Ethel (Landau) and Jeno Saul Friedman. My parents were born in Carpatho-Ruthenia of the
Soviet Union. They emigrated to the U.S. in their teens, meeting in New York. When I was a year old, my
parents moved to Rahway, N.J., a small town about 20 miles from New York City.
I was awarded a competitive scholarship to Rutgers University. I graduated from Rutgers in 1932. I
financed the rest of my college expenses by the usual mixture of waiting at tables, clerking in a retail store,
occasional entrepreneurial ventures, and summer earnings. Shortly, however, I became interested in
economics.
In economics, I had the good fortune to be exposed to two remarkable men: Arthur F. Burns and
Homer Jones. Arthur Burns shaped my understanding of economic research, introduced me to the highest
scientific standards, and became a guiding influence on my subsequent career. Homer Jones introduced me
to rigorous economic theory, made economics exciting and relevant, and encouraged me to go on to graduate
work. On his recommendation, the Chicago Economics Department offered me a tuition scholarship. As it
happened, I was also offered a scholarship by Brown University in Applied Mathematics, but, by that time, I
had definitely transferred my primary allegiance to economics. In 1976 I won the Nobel Memorial Prize in
Economics for my achievements in the fields of consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and for
his demonstration of the complexity of stabilization policy. In 1977, at age 65,1 retired from the University
of Chicago after teaching there for 30 years.

Q21. The following text is for questions number 21 to 22.
A natural disaster is a terrible accident, e.g. a great flood, a big fire or an earthquake. It usually causes great
suffering and loss of a large sum of money. The casualties are injured or died. Some people are homeless and
need medical care.
Floods occur when the water of rivers, lakes, or streams overflow their banks and pour onto the surrounding
land. Floods are caused by many different things. Often heavy rainstorms that last for a brief can cause a
flood. But not all heavy storms are followed by flooding. If the surrounding land is flat and can absorb the
water, no flooding will occur. If, however, the land is hard and rocky, heavy rain cannot be absorbed. Where
the banks are low, a river may overflow and flood adjacent lowland.
In many part of the world flood are caused by tropical storms called hurricanes or typhoons. They bring
destructive winds of high speed, torrents of rain, and flooding. When a flood occurs, the destruction to
surrounding land can be severe. Whole villages and towns are sometimes swept away by water pouring
swiftly over the land. Railroad track blocked and uprooted from their beds. Highways are washed away.
When a building caught fire, the firemen pitched in to help battle the blaze. Before the pumps were invented,
people formed bucket brigades to fight fires. Standing side by side, they formed a human chain from the fire
to nearby well or river. They passed buckets of water from to hand to be poured on the flames.
The damage of the fire did depend a great deal on where it happened. In the country or a small village, only
a single house might burn down. But in crowded cities, fire often destroyed whole blocks and neighborhoods
before being controlled.

Dear Mr.Dani,
I am Wahyu . I am a Psychology graduate of Jendral Achmad Yani University. During my study, I was
a member and an active organizer at Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM), Faculty of Psychology, for 4 years.
At that time, I was in Charge as staff of research and development division, chief of research and
Development division, vice chairman, and senate supervisor.
Related to my background, when I saw the job posting as a management trainee at PT. Ceres as
advertised on Kompas, Thursday October 26th-2017, I was interested To apply for the position. Although I’m
a fresh graduate, the organizational experience that I have makes me used to work in team thus I believe that
I’m the right candidate that the company is looking for. Beside an active organizer, I am also frequently
involved in various committee activities as a member of fund division.
Thank you for taking the time to review my resume and consider me for this Position. I look forward to
the possibility of discussing this opportunity with you.
Warmer Regards,

What should the applicant have to apply the position based on the text?
Edward : How did you enjoy your trip to Ireland last week?
Retha : Oh, I liked it very much.
Edward : …………………………the food there?
Retha : Well, I think it’s very different from the food here. The food was quite nice, but I didn’t
like the fresh vegetables.
Edward : I’m not very fond of fresh vegetables either, but I feel I’d rather eat vegetable soup than the
fresh one. What about the weather in Ireland?
Retha : Well, it was fairly good though we had a lot of snowfall.
Edward : Oh, what a pity! Did you get any unforgettable experience?
Retha : Yes, I did. I was trapped in my room when the others went out
Edward : Didn’t you share a room with your sister?
Retha : No, I didn’t. Everybody got a room in the villa.
Edward : How could you be trapped?
Retha : I overslept, so they thought I went out before them.
