Course Title: Quantitative Business Analysis


PRACTICAL NO. 2(a)
Object: A team of medical researchers has developed an exercise program to help reduce hypertension. To
ascertain whether the program is effective, the team selects a sample of 10 hypertensive individuals and
places them on the exercise program for a month. The diastolic blood pressures of the 10 hypertensive
individuals before they began the exercise program are as follows:

106, 94, 118, 109, 118, 95, 99, 97, 109, 106

a) Calculate mean median and standard deviation of the given data.


b)Using the calculated quantities, measure the skewness of the data and make comments
about the skewness.
c) Calculate mean deviation about mean and median also compare.
d)Calculate coefficient of variation.
e)Calculate first four moments about mean.
f) Calculate β 1and β 2 , and make comments about skewness and kurtosis

Object: Eighty randomly selected light bulbs were tested to determine their life time (in hours). Frequency
distribution of the life time is as under:
