ISSUE TWO

Ah, the first fulfillment of the promise of any

first issue: the ever-tenuous second issue. It is,
in many ways, the first challenge of an endeavor
such as this. Beginnings are effortless, in the
end—it’s continuations that prove their own
impossibility. Surely there’s a metaphor in here,
somewhere.
So it is that we proceed in our task, as a poet
of some renown once said, to “reel out diary-
scraps and memoranda, just as they are, large
or small, one after another, into print-pages,
and let the melange’s lackings and wants of
connection take care of themselves.” Which
seems upon reflection quite a generous
estimation—I am well aware that the task of
connection falls ultimately to you, dear Reader.
I have done all that I care to do in that regard,
and all that I can.
But fret not! You will do whatever comes
naturally, and I will be pleased whatever the
result. After all, I am not there at your table, as
attractive a prospect as that may be. Your life is
your own, and mine can only be mine. We’ll
muddle through somehow, I’m sure.
As ever, I possess a great sense of debt and
gratitude for your largesse in these matters,
