Foreign Policy Statement (FPS)

Once you have completed the basic research, you are equipped to write your foreign policy
statement. FPS must be submitted to anyone of the said e-mails on or before 9th of August.
Anything after that will not be considered.

Keep in mind that resolutions must be consistent with your countries policies.

Writing a FPS makes you think about the information you have researched and helps you express
ideas concisely and clearly, thus, preparing you better for the conference.

A FPS should include three sections, outlined below:

A. Position taken by your delegation: - What are your national interests in the situation? What are
your nation’s policies on the topic? What steps would you like to see taken to deal with the
problem?

B. Current steps taken by your delegation: - What is your nation doing at the current time to
address the agenda?

C. Proposed Solutions: What does your nation believe needs to be done to solve the problem? What
do you predict will be the main opposition to your proposals?

Sample Foreign Policy Statement

Name of Delegate: Jane Doe

Name of Delegation: France

Name of Committee: United Nations Human Rights Council

Agenda: Religious discrimination and its implications

A): Does France support/condemn this question?

● France openly condemns discrimination based on religious or, in fact, any form. Freedom of
religion in France is guaranteed by the constitutional rights set forth in the 1789 Declaration of the
Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

B): What is France doing to support/ condemn the question?

● Within France itself, since 1905 the French government has followed the principle of laïcité , in
which the State does not recognize any official religion (except for legacy statutes like that of
military chaplains and the local law in Alsace-Moselle). Instead, it merely recognizes religious
organizations

, according to formal legal criteria that do not address religious doctrine.

● Religious organizations in France should refrain from intervening in the State's policy-making. At
the same time any form of revolt or public disturbances based on religion has no level of tolerance
from the government.

● Just like many other issues France wants the world to tackle, this is a problem that France is very
persistent on solving, not only within its borders but across a global scale. It has conferred to many
high placed personnel from other countries where discrimination based on religion is a pushing
problem.

● One huge example of no tolerance in France is when city officials of Paris stopped and banned a
controversial "pork sausage and wine" street party planned by extremist groups who purpose was to
combat what they saw as the "Islamisation" of a city neighborhood.

C): What does France plan to do to support/condemn this question?

● Recently France has been under the spotlight for the various religious problems that have been
occurring within its borders. There have been many instances where companies and people have
turned down potential employees just because of the fact that they belonged to, as perceived by the
employers, “extremist racial groups”, the most affected being the Muslim community.

● France is closely scrutinizing the situation and trying to assault and solve this growing problem.
The government fears that if the problem is left to grow, soon enough, constant riots and even mass
murders/ massacres might Rage across, not only France, but across the world.

In the case of this committee, since we have two agendas, you must attach two FPS, one each, into
the same document.
