2. .What are the created Injury Prevention Programme integrated into aspects
of a sports entity’s guidelines, that can greatly reduce athletes’ accidents
and injuries. (10 Points)

One of the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle across the lifespan is

physical activity and participation in sport and recreation is encouraged by all
health care professionals. The sport-related injury burden is however significant
and there is a need for research into the evaluation of injury prevention strategies
in all sports across all ages. The youth and young adult populations have the
highest participation rates, but also the highest injury rates and sport is the
leading cause of injury in youth. Studies have shown that 20% of schoolchildren
will miss at least one day of school per year due to sports injuries, and one in
three youth seek medical attention for sports-related injuries per year. Even
adults lose at least one day a year from work as a result of sport-related injury.
Sport is the leading cause of all injuries in youth, but also has an impact on the
adult population. Furthermore, the financial implications of sport-related injuries
are huge

3. Explain the immediate management procedure of soft-tissue injuries during

the acute inflammatory phase. (10 Points)
The goal of the inflammation phase is to stop the bleeding phase. This
phase starts rapidly within a 6-8 hours after the soft tissue injury, reaches the maximal
reaction between 1-3 days and gradually resolves in a few weeks. Achieved by
vasoconstriction, retraction of injured blood vessels, fibrin deposition and clotting. The
blood supply to the area increases in this time, causing oedema and redness.
Phagocytosis ("the engulfing and usually the destruction of particulate matter by
phagocytes that serves as an important bodily defence mechanism against infection
by microorganisms and against occlusion of mucous surfaces or tissues by foreign
particles and tissue debris") happens during this phase. The acute inflammatory
response involves activities that generate exudates, plasma-like fluid that exudes out
of tissue or its capillaries and is composed of protein and granular leukocytes (white
blood cells).
